Ive read that when you cook olive oil it doesnt change the property of it so that would make it good to fry with maybe? Like chicken breasts and veggies unbreaded would be what i would cook...tyWould deep frying with cold pressed olive oil be healthy ?

Olive Oil, Lower Temperatures Less Toxic in Frying. Frying with canola oil releases more toxic fumes into the air than frying with olive oil,

Smoke Points for types of oils.

Safflower 265 degrees C

Sunflower 246 degrees C

Soybean 241 degrees C

Canola 238 degrees C

Corn 236 degrees C

Peanut 231 degrees C

Sesame 215 degrees C

Olive 190 degrees C

Lards 183 to 205 degrees C

A number of factors will decrease the smoke point of any fat:

combination of vegetable oils in products

presence of foreign properties (batter)

temperature to which oil is heated

presence of salt

number of times oil is used

length of time oil is heated

storage of oil (exposure to oxygen, light, temperature)

Knowing the smoke point will also warn you about, because of its proximity to, the flash point and fire point. An oil reaches its flash point (about 320 degrees C (600 degrees F) for most oils) when tiny wisps of fire begin to leap from its surface. If the oil is heated to its fire point (slightly under 400 degrees C (700 degrees F) for most oils), its surface will be ablaze.Would deep frying with cold pressed olive oil be healthy ?
cold press olive oil won't be good for deep frying as it can't really reach the high temperatures you need to deep fry - it'll make things soggy instead. Cold pressed olive oil also has a good taste which you lose with cooking, its much better used in salads or drizzled over pasta.

For deep drying as healthy as it can be, just use a plain vegetable oil like sunflower and get it very hot, so the food doesn't absorb a lot of the oil, and shake off the excess. Also use a tempura-type batter rather than a heavy fish and chip type batter, and it'll be less stodgy.
It will be a lot healthier than cooking with some of the other oils. Many of those have that little injection of hydrogen

and yes.. chicken or anything else will fry up nicely and I think you'll find that you like the taste better as well, although it will be substantially more expensive.
nope. the only time olive oil is good for your health is to just spoon a tea spoon in . dont cook with it . it lose's its power. so i mean you can try it but i dont think its going to that good. olive oil is good on your salads. and such. raw.
Deep frying anything is not good for you.
No olive oil should be used for deep frying.

Or any frying for that matter

No, olive oil, is not for deep frying. The smoke point is not high enough.

  • Does cooking kale destroy much of its goodness with regards to sauteing in olive oil or blanching?

If goodness is healthiness, then it is best raw. Usually it isn't young and tender enough to eat raw though, so cooking it a bit may release some minerals and vitamins, but if you only use a little liquid or oil, they still may be eaten. If it's blanched in large amounts of water, nutrients are lost and can't be recovered. Another option is to incorperate it into whatever you are making be it a soup, pasta, stir fry or whatever by adding it at the last minute and just wilting a bit.

It's pretty forgiving and usually doesn't need lots of cooking.Does cooking kale destroy much of its goodness with regards to sauteing in olive oil or blanching?
I like it sauteed in olive oil with garlic until just wilted. It is so nutritious I would not worry about a slight loss due to cooking.Does cooking kale destroy much of its goodness with regards to sauteing in olive oil or blanching?
kale is so powerful i don't worry about it. steaming is good, sauteed sounds yummy right now.

or even better make a waldorf salad with kale.
cooking always denatures compounds. so there's always a loss of nutrition...in comparison to the fresh raw version. there is still plenty of nutrition in cooked veggies.

How much is the ph value of the pure olive oil?

pH: refers to the hydrogen ion concentration in an aqueous solution. Olive oil and other oils are not water soluble so their acidity cannot be measured in terms of pH. Vegetable oils are very weak acids, when mixed with a strong base such as lye they will form a salt (commonly called soap). Better oils have a low acidity while lower quality oils will be more acidic. Their acid content is usually measured in percent free acidity. Extra virgin olive oil must have less than .8% free fatty acid but some have less than .1%

How do i make olive oil/balsamic vinegar dip?

if it is just the 2 ingredients you want, the general rule of thumb is 2 parts oil to 1 part vinegar. Hope this helpsHow do i make olive oil/balsamic vinegar dip?
Pour balsamic vinegar into a bowl. Add 1 part mustard (any kind works) to 5 parts vinegar. SLOWLY drizzle in oil while WHISKING vigorously. Keep adding oil just until the oil won't incorporate anymore. Season w/ salt %26amp; pepper to taste.

You need to add mustard or some other small, small ground up solid so the oil and vinegar will mix into a colloidal suspension. Otherwise, they will separate.

You may want to try a salad oil or canola oil. Olive oil can get bitter when whisked into an emulsion/colloid like this.

You can add herbs/spices as well. Minced garlic, rosemary, thyme, savory would work well. Experiment. How do i make olive oil/balsamic vinegar dip?

What is the difference between Olive Oil, Virgin Olive Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil?

extra virgin is the first press virgin is the second and olive oil is the last press of the olives so they get less in strengthWhat is the difference between Olive Oil, Virgin Olive Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil?
I was going to write a cheap, sleazy answer to do with sex, but decided it was too cheap and sleazy xWhat is the difference between Olive Oil, Virgin Olive Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil?
the difference is how refined they are... olive oil won't have been so well quality controlled, it may have a few bits of olive in it, virgin olive oil and extra virgin olive oil usually are made from only one type of olive, and they will have been through the refining process several times. If you ever get the chance, go to a tiny town called sfinari on the west of Crete, it's really hard to find but if you can, there's an olive oil factory there, and a woman in the local cafe/taverna called Artemisia makes gorgeous honey from her bees. great for a half term holiday. I'm not having you on, it's great! if you want proof, one of my friends owns a house there, visit http://sfinari.com/ to have a look
Extra virgin is the first pressing, Virgin is the second. Both are cold pressed. Then comes olive oil, the third grade.
Extra virgin olive oil, is the first pressing of the olive, virgin olive oil is the second pressing and olive oil is the third pressing.
Extra virgin is from the first pressing of the olives, followed by virgin from the second pressing until you get to the lowest grade of just olive oil. Extra virgin obviously is the most expensive and flavorful too.
For a really good explanation go to www.filippoberio.co.uk
    experience?
It depends on the promiscuity of the olive tree.
    Types of Olive Oil

Olive oil is made only from green olives. Nearly the entire production of green olives in Italy is converted into olive oil.

Flavor, color, and consistency vary, like fine wines, due to different olive varieties, location, and weather. The olive oils of some small producers are treated and priced like fine vintage wines.

    Extra-Virgin Olive Oil:

Any olive oil that is less than 1% acidity, produced by the first pressing of the olive fruit through the cold pressing process. Most olive oils today are extra virgin in name only, meeting only the minimum requirement. Extra virgin is a chemical requirement that does not indicate quality and taste.

    Virgin Olive Oil:

It is made from olives that are slightly riper than those used for extra-virgin oil and is produced in exactly the same manner. It is essentially defective Extra Virgin oil. This oil has a slightly higher level of acidity (1 1/2).

    Refined Olive Oil:

Olive oil known as ';Refined Oil'; is obtained from refining virgin olive oil that has defects (the result is an essentially tasteless olive oil). Among the defects are a natural acidity higher than 3.3%, poor flavor, and an unpleasant odor. This product is also known as ';A'; refined olive oil.

    Pure Olive Oil:

Pure olive oil, often simply called olive oil, comes either from the second cold pressing or the chemical extraction of the olive mash left over after the first pressing. Also called commercial grade oil. It is lighter in color and blander than virgin olive oil. It is more general-purpose olive oil. Pure refers to the fact that no non-olive oils are mixed in.

    Refined Olive-Pomace Oil:

Oil which is obtained by treating olive pomace with solvents is refined using methods which do not lead to alterations in the initial glyceridic structure. Don't buy this grade, as it is bad for you.

    Olive-Pomace Oil:

Olive oil which consists of a blend of refined olive-pomace oil and virgin olive oil. Don't buy this grade, as it is bad for you.

Light %26amp; Extra Light'; Olive Oil:

The olive oil that you see on the supermarket shelf advertised as ';light'; or as ';Extra Light'; olive oil contains the exact same number of calories as regular olive oil and is a mixture of refined olive oils that are derived from the lowest quality olive oils available through chemical processing. These oils are so bad that cannot be consumed by humans without refining.
Extra Virgin Olive oil is from the first pressing of the olives and Virgin olive is from the second pressing.
Extra-virgin olive oil comes from the first pressing of the olives, contains no more than 0.8% acidity, and is judged to have a superior taste. There can be no refined oil in extra-virgin olive oil.

    * Virgin olive oil with an acidity less than 2%, and judged to have a good taste. There can be no refined oil in virgin olive oil.

    * Olive oil is a blend of virgin oil and refined virgin oil, containing at most 1% acidity. It commonly lacks a strong flavor.

    * Olive-pomace oil is a blend of refined pomace olive oil and possibly some virgin oil. It is fit for consumption, but it may not be called olive oil. Olive-pomace oil is rarely found in a grocery store; it is often used for certain kinds of cooking in restaurants.

    * Lampante oil is olive oil not used for consumption; lampante comes from olive oil's ancient use as fuel in oil-burning lamps. Lampante oil is mostly used in the industrial market.

Probably yo have consumed Turkish olive oil and you didn't even know.

Most of the time the olive oil produced in turkey have Italian names to make it easier to sell. Because Italy is the number one producer of olive oil in the world and people seems to prefer Italian oil over any kind of oil.

Do you cook with Olive Oil?

I always do...Do you cook with Olive Oil?
    You bet, all the time.

Well, if I am frying something and want to use really high heat, then no, as olive oil does not have a high smoke point. I use canola or grape seed oil for a high smoke point.Do you cook with Olive Oil?
I never cook olive oil. I use it on salad.

I like to cook with canola oil because it tastes better, and it is also very healthy.
    Absolutely
    I do but not always.

    nfd
    Yes
Always. Except for baking, then I use canola.
yes its probably the best thing u could cook with!!
depends on what flavor I'm going for... I usually use olive oil as it is fairly healthy, but at times when I don't want the heavier flavor, I'll opt for canola.

olive oil is my preferred, but, at times, just gotta cook with popeye (couldn't resist).
    Always!
When the situation calls for it's use I will use the right olive oil for the right cooking situation . I would never use evo for cooking nor would I ever use olive oil as my standard every day cooking oil .

The reason being is that it has three major drawbacks

    It's flavor

    It's low smoke point

    It's cost -it's expensive stuff

I'm of Greek descent and olives and olive oil have been in my heritage for 3000 years so I am more than a little familiar with the product
    almost exclusively
    not all the time .

it would depend on the dish that i am cooking at the time i do not use it when i cook Chinese or Indian food nor would i use it for English foods .

however i do use olive oil for most Mediterranean dishes but some use butter as opposed to olive oil.

so i would use the appropriate oil fat or butter for the dish that i am cooking
    All the time!
Always when I'm cooking Italian. But if I have to fry something like french fries I use Canola.
I would have to say at least 98 percent of the time. If I am making stir fry or fried rice I use dark sesame oil.
I use olive oil for quick sautees of vegetables or making dressings or dips. It is kind of a waste of money if you are cooking high temp or for a long time, as the oil loses its flavor. For high temp frying, i use peanut or soybean, and for stir-frys i use peanut mixed with sesame (same flavor, lower cost). I also use sesame in a lot of asian dishes for its lovely caramel flavor
    me too
Yup, lower cholestorol and all that jazz...
sometimes, it is more expensive than plain vegetable oil.
    Yes, it's the best!
yes we have slowly switched to olive oil over the last few months..the only thing we use regular oil is for the deep fryer cause thats alot of olive oil ....

Taking olive oil by mouth helps reduce wrinkles and slow aging?

If this is true, how much should i take per day or per week or what? And should I take it with something or just drink it from the bottle?Taking olive oil by mouth helps reduce wrinkles and slow aging?
Not that I am aware of. However cook with Olive Oil and use it as a salad dressing if not spread on bread instead of butter will be a healthy option.Taking olive oil by mouth helps reduce wrinkles and slow aging?
I have no idea if that is true. I do know that there are a lot of eldery Greek women including all the women on both sides of my family that have very few wrinkles and seem to age at glacial speed . Whether or not it's a positive genetic mutation caused by eating olive oil for 3000 years or simply the oil itself I cannot say for sure.
Never heard that before. Check your resources, cuz I think its probably a farce. The only thing that could possibly be good for orally is a good bowel movement.
You can live a life of dieting and careful food selection and supplements and consumption of oils, etc. but honestly they are not going to help. And you can spend a lot of money on commercial products with their many dubious claims but after many years of research I found this to be the quickest, low cost, and most effective treatment.

Discovered that it not only permanently rid my skin of many problems but gave me a flawless, blemish free healthy skin and that it was very successful in eliminating or vastly reducing premature wrinkles and preventing others from appearing. Also tightens and rejuvenates skin and noticably lessens other signs of aging.

Voted BEST ANSWER (go to my profile) Person says it is working for her after 4 days. Use a natural or organic oil - coconut , vitamin E, or light olive oil, are excellent and regularly massage with a quite strong, vigorous motion (at night as makes face flushed) It's the key to it working! Skin clinics might tell you to massage gently - they are wrong as it's proven to be only beneficial. Stimulates %26amp; hastens a new skin to emerge with wrinkles noticably reduced - see results in about one to two weeks, even better overtime. Initially, skin has to adjust %26amp; if soreness, or reactions happen - stop %26amp; resume when you can. Find the pace that works for you - it's different for every person. Keep up a massage routine(not as vigorous) after that %26amp; and you will see continued improvements. Totally and permanently rid my skin of all of my skin problems and I've had a rejuvenated, really healthy, blemish free skin for many years. I am often thought to be 10 to 15 years younger

Try it, you will be happy that you did. If apply to entire face (and do not forget neck) you will not need to use any other products or treatments ever again. Skin will naturally moisterize. Only unhealthy skins need constant moisturizing and OTC products (Many have countless harsh, chemical ingredients that harm skin and are cause of many skin disorders and skin aging.) Do a search online ';Harmful cosmetics ingredients '; You will see confirmation of that.

Source(s): 20+ years of research into natural treatments and cures of skin problems and anti aging treatments.
No. It is a food and should be used whenever insted of other oils for health reason.. Moisterize your face day and night and stay out of the sun. Wrinkles will come with age regardless and none of can escape them.

Olive oil is great for your skin and hair. It can be used like a hot oil treatment and or applied to dry frizzy hair directly and left on - just a tiny bit though. More about using olive oil for your hair and skin at www.amazingoliveoil.comAny1 heard of putting olive oil in yor hair?
I use olive oil all the time.

It adds some of the oils back into your hair and makes it look silkier and shinier.

To use it, I put a little bit on the ends, and an even smaller ammount in the rest of my hair; too much an it looks greasy.
It's supposed to be really good if your hair is very dry.

I've used mayo - but the fella in my life doesn't like the smell of olive oil, so I haven't tried it.
ya i heard it does help moisturize it. and its also good for you skin =]. you can just put it in or mix it with shampoo
my mom just put rosemary oil in my hair..

after you shampoo %26amp; condition, just put a couple drops of it in your hands and just go through your hair.
The ancient Greeks used to use it to suffocate head lice, as well as for the reasons already mentioned.
My girlfriend use jojoba oil to moisterize her hair, seems to work good and doesn't mess up clothes.
yes, you should do it and like lather ur hair for like 15-20 min. and wash it off with lots of shampoo

I am half greek myself, and women in Greece use olive oil before they bath. You can use after, if you don't mind smelling of it! If you researched a bit on Google, you would find that many beauty products include olive oil.

Try it. (not on the face, as it will cause spots/pimples/zits whatever you call them.

    and i must admit

    IT WORKS (:

it makes your face baby soft and so very clear!

i got mine from The Body Shop.Does anyone else use Grapeseed oil or Olive oil on their body and face?
I use olive oil on my skin because its natural and gets the job done (keeping my skin from drying out too much). Its a little greasy so ya gotta put it on after a shower, and I have to stand around naked (usually I dry my hair) for 10 minutes while it soaks in.
I use grapeseed oil for my face as a cleanser and moisturizer, my skin is really sensitive. And I use jojoba oil for my hair, to keep it moisturized; I just recently removed my dreadlocks.
I use olive oil on my hair

Does anybody ever skillet sautee chicken in olive oil?

I do it quite often especially in the winter when it's too cold to grill.

I put some olive oil in the skillet with some crushed garlic to start and add the chicken when the oil heats up. Sometime do it the whole boneless/skinless breast at a time and sometime I dice the breast up to add it to a sauce or just to toss with some veggies and pasta, which I add to the skillet.Does anybody ever skillet sautee chicken in olive oil?
ya I only use olive oil

just dont turn it up to high

it burns easier.Does anybody ever skillet sautee chicken in olive oil?
I have, but you defeat the healthy properties of Olive Oil when cooking it...and it burns a bit faster than canola.
But of course, salt and pepper the chicken first or use various seasoned salts or even saltless spice mixes. The trick is to finish in the oven using flavored vinegars, cherry peppers, wines and/or sherry. Different tastes and textures every time. Experiment and enjoy!
    Simple Chicken Saute

    2 Servings

    Ingredients

2 Chicken breast halves, 2 tb Fresh lemon juice

1 tb Olive oil 1 tb Soft margarine

1 1/2 tb Green onions, chopped 2 ts Fresh parsley, chopped

    4 Mushrooms, chopped

    Directions

Rinse the chicken, remove all visible fat, dry throughly. Flatten slightly with the heel of your hand to attain uniform thickness for even cooking. Heat the olive oil in a 10'; non-stick skillet. Saute the chicken for 3 minutes each side, or until just firm to the touch. Remove chicken from pan and keep warm. Using the same skillet, saute the green onions until translucent. Add mushrooms and cook for 2 minutes. Stir in the lemon juice and boil til most of the liquid has evaporated. Stir in the soft margarine. Spoon this mixture over the chicken and sprinkle parsley on top. Serves 2 Each serving provides: 255 calories 3 g carbohydrate 28 g protein 155 mg sodium 6 g fat 68 mg cholesterol (To bring the fat down even further, I spray the skillet with cooking spray rather than use olive oil, and substitute 1 tsp. olive oil for the margarine. This makes the sauce a bit thin, but it really does bring down the fat content, eliminates the saturated fat altogether, and tastes better too.)
I never use olive oil for cooking, has a low flash point, and you want to have your pan hot so you can seal in flavor when you sear the chicken. Look into pumpkin seed oil, or sunflower oil. Both of these have higher smoke points, and are just as healthy
yes, with a few spices. Cut in center to make sure it is done.

    Takes less than 10 minutes
Definitly 20 minutes on one side, twenty minutes on the other side then put some barbecue sauce on it.
Yes, Olive oil is very good for you. I dice up chicken and sprinkle some thyme and garlic with the chicken and cook it, medium heat, as the oil does seem to heat up faster and cook hotter than other oils.
Absolutely! It's so versatile. You can saute it and put it on a green salad for a light lunch or supper. You can add it to a alfredo sauce with summer squash, zuchinni and red peppers and pour over penne. If you are talking about whole pieces, I would saute for color then place in a baking pan and cover with whatever you like and finish in the oven so the pieces don't become too browned or even burned before cooked through. Don't waste your extra virgin olive oil on sauteing, though. Regular olive oil is best for cooking, extra virgin is too expensive, has a lower burning point and is best for using to drizzle over cooked items and as a salad dressing ingredient.

What is difference between olive oils? Particularly ';domestic'; olive oil?

Is domestic olive oil better for you. What is the best kind to have? What is difference between olive oils? Particularly ';domestic'; olive oil?
The grades of oil extracted from the olive fruit can be classified as:

Virgin means the oil was produced by the use of physical means and no chemical treatment. The term virgin oil referring to production is different from Virgin Oil on a retail label (see next section).

Refined means that the oil has been chemically treated to neutralize strong tastes (characterized as defects) and neutralize the acid content (free fatty acids). Refined oil is commonly regarded as lower quality than virgin oil; the retail labels extra-virgin olive oil and virgin olive oil cannot contain any refined oil.

Pomace olive oil means oil extracted from the pomace using chemical solvents, mostly hexane, and by heat.

Quantitative analysis can determine the oil's acidity, defined as the percent, measured by weight, of free oleic acid it contains. This is a measure of the oil's chemical degradation; as the oil degrades, more fatty acids are freed from the glycerides, increasing the level of free acidity and thereby increasing rancidity. Another measure of the oil's chemical degradation is the organic peroxide level, which measures the degree to which the oil is oxidized, another cause of rancidity.

In order to classify it by taste, olive oil is subjectively judged by a panel of professional tasters in a blind taste test. This is also called its organoleptic quality.

In countries which adhere to the standards of the IOOC (international olive oil comission) the labels in stores show an oil's grade. The US is not a member.

Extra-virgin olive oil comes from virgin oil production only, contains no more than 0.8% acidity, and is judged to have a superior taste.

Virgin olive oil comes from virgin oil production only, has an acidity less than 2%, and is judged to have a good taste.

Pure olive oil. Oils labeled as Pure olive oil or Olive oil are usually a blend of refined and virgin production oil.

Olive oil is a blend of virgin and refined production oil, of no more than 1.5% acidity. It commonly lacks a strong flavor.

Olive-pomace oil is refined pomace olive production oil possibly blended with some virgin production oil. It is fit for consumption, but may not be described simply as olive oil. Olive-pomace oil is rarely sold at retail; it is often used for certain kinds of cooking in restaurants.

Lampante oil is olive oil not suitable as food; lampante comes from olive oil's long-standing use in oil-burning lamps. Lampante oil is mostly used in the industrial market.

Light olive oil refers to the color or flavour being lighter, it does not refer to how healthy the oil may be in comparison to extra virgin olive oil. What is difference between olive oils? Particularly ';domestic'; olive oil?

Your problem is that you need iron, folic acid and b 12. Do the test when you click my name and do the iron deficiency test on that page. Your skin is see thru under your eyes which is why you have dark circles.Olive oil for undereye circles and skin?
I've heard the same with vitamin K and vitamin E oil too. Put it on before you sleep and leave it on while you sleep.

I'm actually trying it with vitamin E right now. =) Hope it works !
Olive oil doesn't work ... a Vitamin K deficiency and possibly heredity play a part in the under eye dark circles.

Why is olive oil so much more expensive than other cooking oil?

Because of the lengthy process needed to turn the olives into oil...

Virgin olive oil is the first oil that comes out of the press where the olives are crushed and pressed to extract the oil... Ordinary olive oil (also quite good) is the next step. It is the second pressing (often with some heat added) to extract more oil. Then there is another called Aceite de Orujo... which is made from the already pressed olives, they are ground even more and strained to release the remaining oil. This is also bottled and sold as ';Orujo'; oil (this oil is usually not used for exporting).

Before all this processing is started, the ripe olives are taken off the tree by beating the branches and leaves until the olives fall and are gathered in a large net on the ground. Then they are transferred by tractor to the mills where the rest of the pressing process takes place, the oil is then bottled, labeled and boxed for shipping...Much more complicated than other seed oils.

The results are an oil of superb quality.

The best olive oils are from the following countries:

    Spain

    Italy,

    France.

Although many other mediterranean countries also have olive groves and produce oil, these three are the best...Why is olive oil so much more expensive than other cooking oil?

If you get the extra virgin olive oil, it means that it's the first pressed. In laymans terms, when they mash the olives, it's the oil from the first pressing.
Plus the fact that canola, corn, sunflower and safflowers grow in the US and Canada, want to see a high priced oil try almond, avocado or mustard oil, the process they take is critical, some things are easier to extract the oil from, in the US you don;t have as much of it but here in Canada we have just started recently getting oil from Hemp seed, the non-addictive and no THC form of the Marijuana plant, it is nice, but fragile and must be refrigerated, has a nice nutty taste, but like Italian White truffle oil alittle goes a long way.
It is a lot more expensive to process.
#1 cuz it cost more to get it

    #2 it's good for you

#3 alot of it is imported

#4 cuz you can use it for so much

#5 cuz they can charge that much and people will pay it,, =o)

We've all heard that fryed foods aren't good for us. Is that true even if the food is fried in olive oil?

For example is lightly frying salmon in olive oil the same as frying it in vegetable oil? Is the fat content and health risks the same? We've all heard that fryed foods aren't good for us. Is that true even if the food is fried in olive oil?
All fats have the same number of calories by weight, that is 250 calories per ounce or 9 calories per gram. So if you are looking to cut down on your weight then whether it is olive, canola , peanut oils or lard you have to watch out on the quantity.

Olive oil is very rich in monounsaturated fats which benefit blood cholesterol levels. For cooking / frying you must however use Pomace which is recommended for cooking %26amp; frying, it does not smoke easily nor does it alter the taste of the food. ( Pomace is a type of olive oil like extra virgin, extra light etc.)

Canola definitely is the best bet as far as an oils benefits are concerned as it has the highest % of monosaturated fats 8.2 gms per tsp as compared to 3.3 in olive oil, but it is expensive. Canola spreads can be substituted for butter or margarine, it tastes good quite like butter.

Try having flaxseed oil also called rapeseed oil that too is good for health.I however did not fancy the smell or the taste.

Peanut oil has about 6.2 % of monosaturated fats per tsp but it is also rich in saturated fats that are really bad for you.

Look at labels on the oil you are buying , they should have a combination of monsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. More of the former. Steer clear from labels that read saturated or hydrogenated fats. They'll have your cholesterol shooting up in no time. Remember however that all oils / fats have a certain % of saturated fats but you need to keep them low.

If you are looking to benefit your heart then salmon is an excellent choice. Also good are mackerel, sardines, tuna basically any cold water fish. Walnuts and flaxseeds are the only vegetarian sources for omega - 3.

Hope this helps you. We've all heard that fryed foods aren't good for us. Is that true even if the food is fried in olive oil?
Groundnut oil is extremely good and gives a lovely flavor.

Vegetable oils are a healthy choice, as they are high in polyunsaturated fats.

Grapeseed oil has one of the lowest levels of saturated fat of any oil, smokes very little and gives a good crisp finish.

Never use olive, sesame or walnut oils for deep-frying as they have lower burning points. They won't allow the food to seal quickly and may smoke.
It is okay to take in good fatty oil like olive oil about 1 - 2 tablespoons a day

If you can fry it in that little amount, you are okay
No, well kind of. Olive oil may be very good for you, but it still has lots of fat in it. Also, a lot of the times, when foods are cooked or fried, a lot of the good nutrients are cooked out of it. The same way alchohol or wine is cooked out of dishes served at restaraunts ad just the flavor remains. So yes, if it is fried, it is still bad for you. fyi, Canola oil is the best oil for you. (from wat i have heard anyway)
Olive oil is great for you, however it is not so great for frying. It has a very low heating point and can catch fire very easily, making it unsuitable for frying.
Olive oil, as with any fatty substance, deteriorates during the frying process especially if it is used over and over and if the frying temperature is very high. High temperature destroys the good ingredients of any oil while it creates harmful agents for the liver, the arteries and the heart.

It is important however to take into consideration that these harmful agents are less likely to be created in olive oil than in all other known vegetable oils and this is because olive oil has a different composition. It contains a high percentage of oleic

acid, which is much more resistant to oxidization than the polyunsaturated acids, which are found in large amounts in seed oils.

But more importantly olive oil contains natural anti-oxidizing agents such as phenols and vitamin E. When heated, olive oil is

the most stable fat, which means it stands up well to high frying temperatures. Its high smoking point (210潞 C) is well above the ideal temperature for frying food (180潞).

The digestibility of olive oil is not affected when it is heated, even when it is re-used several times for frying.
Olive oil is a very good choice, it gives everything a little bit of that great olive oil flavor and is known to be quite helpful in controlling cholesterol. Salmon is also an excellent choice, one of the healthiest meats you can have, rich in omega-3 oils. Since you have chosen your foods so wisely I wouldn't worry too much about frying. Just don't fry everything all the time. Try grilling or roasting as alternatives.

    Good luck and good eating.

Olive Oil Handling, Safety %26amp; Storage

Air, heat, light, and age affect the quality and the shelf life of olive oil, which deteriorates through oxidation (rancidity). The oxidation process is greatly enhanced when olive oil is stored in containers that are not air tight and in areas where it is exposed to heat and light. If improperly stored, olive oil can easily take on other flavors.

An unpleasant smell or taste indicates that olive oil is no longer desirable for consumption. A wine smell or taste may reveal that the olive oil was not stored properly. A metallic flavor indicates that the oil was stored in a container made with reactive metal. If olive oil has become rancid very quickly, it may prove that the oil was improperly stored and has oxidized.

    Storage Containers

Olive oil can be kept longer than any other edible oil. Although it can get rancid, olive oil is less likely to become rancid than other oils, especially if it is stored properly. The best containers for storage are glass (especially tinted glass), ceramic, porcelain, or non-reactive metals such as stainless steel.

Olive oil will oxidize rapidly if it is not kept in a sealed container. If olive oil is stored in a bottle, always replace the cap on the bottle and keep it tightly sealed. Never put olive oil in a container that does not have a tight cap or some other method of sealing the container.

Do not store olive oil in containers made of reactive metals such as copper or iron. The chemical reaction between the olive oil and the metal will damage the oil and may produce toxins. Olive oil should not be stored in plastic containers because the oil may absorb PVC's from the plastic.

    Temperature for Storage

The ideal temperature for storing olive oil is 57掳F, although a normal room temperature of 70潞F works very well if the olive oil is stored in a dark area where the temperature remains fairly constant. Olive oil will solidify at 36潞F, but it will return to a liquid state as soon as the temperature rises. In colder weather, olive oil may turn cloudy, especially if the temperature of the storage area falls below 50潞F.

    Locations for Storage

It is important to store olive oil in a cool, dark place. A wine cellar is an ideal place for storing olive oil because it is dark and the temperature is cool and constant. Since most of us do not own wine cellars, a kitchen cabinet located away from the stove and away from direct sunlight will work quite well.

Refrigeration will extend the life of olive oil without harming the oil. The oil will become cloudy and solidify in the refrigerator, but this will not significantly affect the quality or flavor. When the oil is warmed to room temperature it will return to a liquid state and its color will be restored. Refrigeration does not harm most grades of olive oil, but it is not recommended for expensive extra virgin varieties because condensation may develop in the bottle, affecting the flavor.

    Shelf Life

Olive should keep a minimum of 15 months if it is properly stored. If it is stored in its original container and remains unopened, it should last for 2 years or more.

Olive oil has the best flavor when it is used within a year after it is pressed and it is at its peak within 2 or 3 months after pressing. Unlike many types of wine, olive oil does not improve with age. As olive oil ages, it continually degrades and the acidity level rises. As a result, an older bottle of olive oil may have an unpleasant odor and taste. The oil will be neither harmful if consumed, nor very pleasing.

Lower grades of olive oil usually have a shorter shelf life than top quality extra virgin oil because the acidity level is already higher at the time of bottling. A grade of olive such as semi-fine virgin, which has a much higher oleic acid content than extra virgin, may become less desirable after only a few months because the acidity level may rise to an unacceptable level.

    Safety Concerns

    1. Olive oil is safe to use even if it has oxidized. The flavor and aroma may not be very pleasant, but it is not harmful if consumed.

    2. Some flavored olive oils have additives that may require refrigeration in order to preserve them. Others may not require refrigeration because of the process used when manufacturing the oil, so it is best to read the label carefully. It is usually not safe to make your own flavored olive oils at home and keep them for any length of time. Some flavoring agents may promote the growth of bacteria and can only be safely added with commercial processes. You may, however, prepare homemade flavored olive oils if they are used immediately and any leftover oil is disposed of.

    3. A major safety concern is when olive oil (and any other cooking oil) is heated to very high temperatures for deep-frying. Consider the following points:

    * A wire basket may be used to hold the food so that it can be safely lowered and raised in the hot olive oil.

    * Any utensils and equipment that come into contact with the hot oil must be thoroughly dried first. Moisture on the utensils will cause splattering, which can be dangerous.

    * The hot olive oil should not be left unattended and children and pets should NEVER be allowed near the cooking area.

    * A fire extinguisher and heavy potholders should always be within reach.

    * After the cooking is completed, the olive oil should not be transferred to another container or disposed of until it has completely cooled. It is extremely dangerous to pour the hot oil from the cooking vessel. How must de olive oil be cared?

Just use the normal olive oil you use in the kitchen.... After washing your hair... drizzle your hair with 3-4 table spoons depending on the length of our hair... Then massage gently ..especially your scalp. Then microwave a wet towel and wrap it around your head. After it cools off wash your hair with shampoo until all the excess oil is out. Towel dry and enjoy silky Indian hair. Use no more than twice a week...and no less than twice a month. You will see results after the first application.. It doesn't make hair grow faster.. it just makes ur hair strands thicker and healthier. You can also try olive oil on your skin. It works miracles on stretchmarks. How to use olive oil for hair?

    How to taste olive oil?

what is the exact procedure for tasting olive oil. I have seen that on TV, but I would like step by step instructions. How to taste olive oil?
I like to use a fairly bland bread, like a French Baguette (no sourdough, rye, grain breads, etc). Slice the baguette into small chunks or slices (a small bite).

The bread will absorb the oil and help to distribute the flavor and aroma of the oil. Small sips can be taken without bread, but I would only reccommend that method with very light oils.

Tasting can be approached much in the same manner as tasting wine. Taste lighter oils first and move your way up to the stronger ones. Arrange the oils in small dishes or pinch bowls (glass or ceramic only, metal will effect the flavor). Place the dishes on a white paper mat and write a number, the name, and type of oil on the mat. Take notes, no matter how silly they may seem, and don't be afraid to go back and compare and contrast individual oils. You'll be surprised in how more subtle nuances will reveal themselves when tasted alongside similar oils. Observe the color, viscosity, clarity, and aroma before tasting. Be sure to keep the bread/oil in your mouth and take note of where the tastes register (back of throat, tip of tongue, etc). Also try and identify certain individual charachteristics such as the fruitiness, what types of fruit smelled/tasted, the acidity, pungency, and mouthfeel. The olfactory system (the retronasal passage to be exact) plays a fundamental role in our percption of taste. We rely on the combination of the receptors in our mouth along with those in the olfactory system. So be sure and breathe when tasting...let the flavor saturate your senses.

I reccommend having a good mineral water (no bubbles) and chewing a plain peice of bread in between each oil to cleanse the palate.

I am dehydrating my home grown tomatoes - can I rehydrate them later with olive oil instead of boiling water?

I know I have seen them grocery stores packed in olive oil, but I would want to store them dry until ready to use (space saving) - would it be better to rehydrate them in the water, THEN add them to the olive oil for the sauce? If I can rehydrate with olive oil, should the oil be warm and how long would it take?? Thanks.I am dehydrating my home grown tomatoes - can I rehydrate them later with olive oil instead of boiling water?
when ready to rehydrate, put them in warm water and nuke them for just a minute or two. then drain and dry between papertowels immediately, and they wont get soggy. Make sure you do this only right before you want to use them.I am dehydrating my home grown tomatoes - can I rehydrate them later with olive oil instead of boiling water?
    It will take longer. And the hotter the oil the quicker they will rehydrate. Try to keep the oil temperature under 250 degrees so you won't cook your ';maters.';
You are going to have something like..if you have ever seen sun dried tomatoes packed in oil..its not going to be just like a regular tomato. I dont know that I would rehydrate with water because it seems they would just get soggy (after being dried) and fall apart. Eeeew.

Anyhow, No..you dont have to heat the oil. Olive oil works really well for this kind of thing. Just make sure if you want to use them that you pour the olive oil off, unless you want to add them into a really oily dish.

What is the difference between extra virgin olive oil and olive oil..?

...other than the difference between the names themselves?

Also, would it be okay to substitute the extra virgin olive oil in this recipe here for olive oil?

http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/salad鈥?/a>What is the difference between extra virgin olive oil and olive oil..?
';Virgin'; olive oil sim[ply means that the way they extracted the oil was a mechanical process, with no chemicals used. The ';extra'; means that it was tested in two ways...by a taster and in a laboratory, and that it was free of ';defects';, which means it it was clear, pure, had the right taste, the olives were picked at the optimum time for producing oil, etc, etc. There is also ';fine'; olive oil, which is mechanically, chemically free, produced but is slightly defective according to industry standards. Now, things like ';pure'; olive oil, ';light'; and ';extra light'; means that the olives have been either heated or chemically treated to release their oil. It's a lower quality oil and the taste is very different.

It would be best to use the suggested oil, simply because extra virgin is so light and tasty and being produced mechanically it has more healthy benefits (its a natural oil), but it isn't really necessary. What is the difference between extra virgin olive oil and olive oil..?
Regular and Organic Extra Virgin olive oil: is produced with the traditional cold-press process without use of heat or chemicals and contains 100% olive oil . There are no additives added.

Virgin olive oils: this oil is obtained only from the olive, the fruit of the olive tree. It has not undergone any treatment other than washing, decanting, centrifuging and filtering. It excludes oils obtained by the use of solvents or re-esterification methods, and those mixed with oils from other sources.

For that salad, I would use also the regular Olive oil.
To get the olive oil, the olives need to be pressed...

the oil you get from the first press is extra virgin

the oil you get from the second press is virgin

and the third is olive oil- here they use chemicals and stuff...

You can substitute it... extra virgin is too rich for me anyway but thats just me

Thats the difference between virgin and regular... trust me i know olive oil....
Extra virgin is finer, and a lot more absorbent than regular olive oil...most olive oil has a yellowish color to it, sometimes a lightish green, but the really really pure virgin oil is green almost deep sea green, that's another way to know the difference...the deeper green the better the olive oil, which also determines the cost of it....hope I answered your question..
';Extra virgin'; olive oil is from the first pressing of the olives. In the better brands, it is cold pressed, using no heat, and it is usually darker, with a much more distinctive taste than other olive oils.

You COULD substitute regular olive oil for the extra-virgin in that recipe, but you're going to sacrifice a lot of taste if you do.
What you really need to know is that EVO is the most various olive oils.

EVO should NEVER be used for cooking because heat destroys it's flavor and thus wastes the money that you spent on that all that flavor.
    Silly me.

I always thought that they wrung out virgins for one type, and the other type you paid less for because it had been around the block a few times.

    .
Extra virgin is more finely distilled. Thus, more expensive.
Extra Virgin means the first pressing, highest quality %26amp; therefore price.

It has more flavour, is still just olive oil, so if you have it use it.

I always only use OLIVE OIL, all other oil is not as good for you.

Mine taste fine, so you can fry whatever you want in olive oil.

Some poeple just dont like that taste that it has, so for those people oviously its better to use something else
Sure you can you can fry anything in olive oil %26amp; it will taste very good too. Just rember to trim the fat from the pork chops.
Yes, but i would cook it in coconut oil instead. Organic, virgin, unrefined coconut oil.

Although mainstream media portrays olive oil as the healthiest oil, this title does not extend to cooking. Olive oil is primarily a monounsaturated fat. This means that it has one double bond in its fatty acid structure. Although a monounsaturated fat is inherently more stable than a polyunsaturated fat, the overabundance of oleic acid in olive oil creates an imbalance on the cellular level, which has been associated to an increased risk of breast cancer and heart disease. Olive oil is a smart fat to include in your diet in a non-heated form, however.
I use olive oil for most everything. Just be careful that your pan is not too hot because the olive oil will burn.
yes can..throw in some garlic and you have yourself some good tasting chops
    Sure
Yes you can fry pork chops in Olive Oil, they do it on the food channel all the time.
olive oil is best for you
yes we have. but we usually fry them in veggie oil... it tends to work a little better. but either one will work.
I guess I'm here to play the anomoly and say that it's best NOT to fry in Olive Oil.

Olive Oil breaks down rather quickly under higher heat which is required when frying. Best to use a Safflower or Canola or Peanut oil for frying.

    Sorry gang!

    I KNEW I'd get a thumbs-down! Too bad I'm right.
We do it all the time. Even extra-virgin! The chops will not taste like olive oil, and they will probably be a little ';better'; for you than other types of oils -- definitely better than shortening.

    .
Sure. I like to marinate the chops in olive oil and rosemary before I go to work. I just take them out and grill them when I get home.

They are best if you let them reach room temp before you grill them. Salt %26amp; pepper to taste.
I cook mine in extra virgin olive oil.
    Sure, why not!
yes you can and I like adobo spice on it yummy
Yes. Olive oil tastes the best. As a side dish I love little red potatoes with olive oil, rosemary and shallots. Put into the oven at 400 F. Test them after about 30 minutes. It depends how small the potatoes are.
yeha, I did it b4, just dont let the olive oil smoke! dont let it burn.
    yes and it's actually healthier!

  • Why would sweet potatoes rubbed in olive oil catch fire in microwave oven?

Olive oil has a relatively low heat resistance comparied to other oils, so it doesn't take long for it, at say 400* in an oven, to begin to burn. Probably the oil itself burned, which caught the potatoes on fire. Why would sweet potatoes rubbed in olive oil catch fire in microwave oven?
you haft to clean the top of the microwave there was probably left over splash's of old food -----you got to wash the top like the sides and bottom plate or you kept the potatoes in to long they only take 8 minutes--but more then likely there was left over splash's top the microwave to catch a fireWhy would sweet potatoes rubbed in olive oil catch fire in microwave oven?
    The oil burnt.

No need to rub in oil. Just wash well, prick 10 or so times all over w/ a fork, and nuke as-is.
Sweet potato is quite high in sugars and moisture, which combined with the oil in the microwave caught.

Which brand of olive oil tastes the best...I need it for salads and stir fry dishes.?

Well I am an ';Olive Oil Snob'; as Jeremy stated( but I gave him a thumbs of anyway).

For stir fry, olive oil is useless.

It breaks down at a very low heat ( grape seed can take the highest heat of any oil).

You can use canola( rapeseed oil) or a 25/75% mix ( olive 25% veggie75%0

    Or just a veggie oil.

    Salads is different.

The word ';Extra Virgin'; DOES NOT MEAN that they're all the same.

To get the denomination to be called ';extra virgin'; the oil must have an acidity level of under .8%.

So many factors decide the price of any given oil.

    A few examples.

Three ways of obtaining the olives.

    1) for cheaper oils, they simply just pick up the ripe olives that fell to the ground. These olives are ripe. Ripe olives have a very subltle flat flavor, hence and flat buttery tasting oil. They also give more oil( ripe olives give more oil and less water( unripe olives( the best for olive oil) give less oil and more water. That why such a huge difference in price

    2) shaking the tree( more expensive).

The olives that fall into the nets are somewhere in the middle of the road in ripness. Fairly good.

    3) The best olive oil.

Every olive is handpicked and only the greenest, most unrippened olives are picked.

Deep rich flavor with a huge grip ( that peppery after taste that's so desirable).

But to begin with I would go with a Luccan oil ie Bertolli or Berio.

Then you can experiment with the ultimate oils.Which brand of olive oil tastes the best...I need it for salads and stir fry dishes.?
I agree with the first answer - I only buy extra virgin olive oil and use it for everything. It has more flavor, but I really love it and it's so healthy! It is always best not to heat it (it chemically changes the healthy benefits some) - but to drizzle foods with it when eating raw veggies or once cooked.

Important - it should always be ';Cold Pressed'; too!Which brand of olive oil tastes the best...I need it for salads and stir fry dishes.?
EVOO is not the way to go for frying. But, its all a matter of personal taste. I like the heavy green oils and my wife likes the lighter oils. I get alot of my oils online at zingermans.com. They have experts that you can speak with that will guide you through the selection process. Enjoy!
Olive oil is not the best for stir fry because of its relatively low smoke point. Use peanut instead. For other uses I buy Wholefoods ';365'; (i.e. relatively cheap) extra virgin olive oil. Oil snobs may well prefer other, more exotic brands.
I have found that the brand really isn't important...just make sure the label says EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil. That is the best stuff! :)
It's not the brand;-{ it's the type. Get Extra Virgin for salads.
You should use vegetable or canola oil for stir fry dishes. Just get any EVOO, they're all good.
    Anything light and healthy.

If you go to Spain or Italy etc (basically the countries where the Oil is predominant) they use the Extra Virgin only where they specifically want the taste of it... and this is normally when drizzling over the food just before eating or dipping etc. When cooking they just use Olive Oil.

Besides the fact that the extra virgin oil isn't great when cooking with heat, it is just considered a waste.Wat is best for cooking extra virgin olive oil or simple olive oil?
Simple olive oil - but if you are using a lot (for deep frying) mix it with some canola oil.Wat is best for cooking extra virgin olive oil or simple olive oil?
I'm italian and use extra vergine (too precious to heat it up) for cold things like salads, bruschette etc. and the ';normal'; one to cook. As simple as that...
I keep a nice (and expensive!) bottle of EVOO around for salads and drizzles, but when I cook with olive oil (and I do nearly all of my cooking with olive oil) I use just a good cold pressed olive oil that I buy 3 liters at a time rather than the expensive extra-virgin stuff. The taste is much more neutral than EVOO, so it blends well with the flavors of almost any cuisine.

Either way, the health benefits %26amp; anti-oxidant properties are about the same.
    EVOO - Yummo!
Cook with olive oil and dress salads etc with extra virgin - too expensive to cook with extra virgin oil. This works out well for flavour too.
I like the extra because it is more flavourful as it comes from the first pressing of the olives.
Olive oil is ok for cooking you buy the more expensive extra virgin type to use in salad dressing recipes~~
I prefer to cook in a simple olive oil............because of its lower fat contents and besides I am used to its taste already..it is just a matter of habit really~~~although I beleive the simple olove oil is much ehalthier and less cholesterol too which can be bad for the heart..........anyway it depends upon your taste..but I am an olive oil girl..
Watch Rachel Ray, she will tell you EVOO. I use it for pretty much everything, it has a great taste.
extra is tastier for you (a bit), but simple is healthier for you (a bit).

both burn more quickly than a butter or margarine or some other oils. Most people use too high a heat on the olive oils when they cook, and this makes it so that you don't get the flavor from it, and it really doesn't matter which type you used.
simple olive oil has a higher 'smoke point', making it better for cooking.

What is the difference between pressed olive oil and regular?

Olive oil can be cold pressed from olives to get it out. That is usually the better grade.

To get out any remaining oil they steam the residue and get even more out. That is always the lowest quality and is not as tasty. What is the difference between pressed olive oil and regular?
Cold pressed olive oil was the original way of extracting the oil. High quality olive oils are made by cold press because it won't degrade the quality or flavor by adding heat and over processing it. When heat is applied during processing, some of the flavors will be evaporated. I only buy cold pressed extra virgin olive oil from Spain or Italy, it tastes much better than the other kinds. What is the difference between pressed olive oil and regular?
cold pressed olive oil is when no heat is added to extract the oil. look for estate bottle extra virgin olive oil for the best quality - http://all-things-italian.com/products.p鈥?/a>
I might be wrong, but I think it's all pressed. Maybe they just called out ';pressed'; on the lable to make it sound fancy.

How to apply the egg and olive oil mask on hair?

Mix a tbsp of oil to (3-4 tbsp) luke warm milk/water, then add egg/s and beat very well until frothy. Apply evenly and cover with a shower cap.How to apply the egg and olive oil mask on hair?
Bad idea. Hair quality is more a function of internal processes than external ones. My advise is to wash your hair with filtered rain water, dry it in the sun, and finally fry the egg in olive oil and eat it.How to apply the egg and olive oil mask on hair?
Mix two whole eggs with four tablespoons of olive oil. Smooth through hair. Wrap head with plastic wrap, and leave in hair for 10 minutes. Rinse well.

I always use what ever is on sale....So I guess no it doesnt matter what kind it is :o)I want to use extra virging olive oil in my hair, does it matter which brand?
    no, not for hair.
    depends...
No, as long as its pure oil.
Hi there. Brand name shouldn't make a difference. Try to use a dime sized amount so that you don't over kill the smell. Have a great week.
Once I tried olive oil and also once the mayo treatment. What a gross disaster, it coated the hair and made it dull.

Just use good hair products - find them at a good salon near your home %26amp; get professional advice.

For damaged hair, I hear the L'anza treatments or Joico are very good.
Why would you want to use olive oil in your hair? You planning to fry something up there?
Any oil will be hard to remove. You will further dry your hair when you remove the oil. Until it's gone your hair will look greasy and nasty. And your scalp will break out.

Ahh! the wifes tale continues with yet another generation.
I have never done this but I';d say in general if it is good enough to eat it is good enough to put on your hair. Of course a cold pressed oil would be better because the solvent-extracted type (most) might have some residue of solvent however small. But if you are eating it it sure doesn't pay to worry about putting it on your hair.
why would you want to put oil in your hair? i know theres hot oil treatments out there; but is that the same as cooking oil? i really dont think it is.
    no the brand doesn't matter

Can I place Olive Oil in the Bath tub?

Has anyone soaked in the bathtub with olive oil? Does it moisturize? How much did you use?Can I place Olive Oil in the Bath tub?
i have not tried it but it is a good idea. why dont u try olive oil bathing oil?????Can I place Olive Oil in the Bath tub?
Never actually took a bath of olive oil, but i use it on my hair all the time, before I shampoo. It's a great moisturizer, and works well for my hair, so I can imagine it would work great for your skin. However, be careful afterward. It is very very slippery and accidents are bound to happen. This from just washing out about 1/4 cup out of my hair, much less filling a tub with it...
Olive oil is incredibly good for you, particularly as a moisturiser. Don't use too little. Most importantly, don't be afraid to have a swig.
no no no, use lemon instead here's a link that will tell you

Once a week I rub warm olive oil mixed with cinnamon into my scalp. Is this healthy?

I heard somewhere that cinnamon stimulates the scalp so I do the hot oil treatment every week. After it, my scalp feels warm and 'active' if you know what I mean, like there's toothpaste on it. Is this healthy for my hair or am I messing with it? Btw, I was wondering, is it possible to lighten your hair that way then??? Someone said cinammon bleaches gently...Once a week I rub warm olive oil mixed with cinnamon into my scalp. Is this healthy?
    Hi

Nothing wrong with this although you may find your hair becoming a little greasy. It is recommended to use a specific product with the relevant ingredients. There are some great products for your hair that contain olive oil.Once a week I rub warm olive oil mixed with cinnamon into my scalp. Is this healthy?
I have never heard of this treatment, but i have heard that anything with olive oil works well to restore moisture and shine. I've also never heard that cinnamon lightens, but I would only recommend going lighter with a stylist. Too many things can go wrong with lightening yourself - ie orange hair, brittle hair etc. Mayo and avacado are supposed to be really good for your hair as well, just dont overdo it or you'll have a greasy mess!

  • In order to insert my tampon easily, is it okay to put olive oil on the applicator?

will i get any infections? In order to insert my tampon easily, is it okay to put olive oil on the applicator?
Tampons themselves cause infections, tampons are bad for vaginal health and commercial tampons (e.g. Tampax) are the most harmful of over twenty different menstrual options. If concerned about infections you may want to consider a safer menstrual option such as menstrual cups.

Tampons themselves are absorbent wads of material being put into a moist delicate area where bacteria breeds thus causing vaginal splitting and giving bacteria and yeast a good place full of nutritious menstrual blood to multiply upon. Commercial tampons are made from super-absorbent materials that add to the issues mentioned in the first point, but also contain bleach and chemicals that are unnecessary and contribute to infections by affecting vaginal PH, in turn affecting natural bacterial and yeast balance.

As for the olive oil, that in itself shouldn't cause an infection, many women use it as a natural lubricant, in fact it is beneficial because it is slightly antifungal, although the issue I'd see with this is that because tampons cause vaginal splitting olive oil may cause some discomfort. In order to insert my tampon easily, is it okay to put olive oil on the applicator?
I don't agree at all! Tampons are a safe and affordable way to handle your period when you need to swim, play sports, etc. They are a woman's best friend. Why spend money on these ';cups'; that do the same thing? Report Abuse

    TRY C*M
Leave olive oil for dinner tonight.

Listen, tampon should slide in just fine providing you relax and providing you get the right angle. It takes practice. Use the ones with an applicator, more hygienic and easier to use. There are different sizes, perhaps super is too big for you, try the mini first just so you get used to the feel and get to know the exact angle where it needs to go. At first wear san towels combined with tampons until you get it right. I remember years and years ago when I first tried them, I couldn't get it right straight away. Tampon is inserted properly when one part of the papery bit clicks in the other part, and you shouldn't feel it when you sit down. Its much better than sani towels especially in this hot weather when its sweaty. Good luck, keep trying
are you serious?? i wouldnt.. use spit.. or vasiline.. or love lubrication of some sort... not oil... chocolate sauce... jam.. marmalade... ha ha..
NO! First off, the oil will reduce the efficiency of the tampon. Second, it will cause an infection. Don't put anything up there that shouldn't be there.
I wouldnt use olive oil no, i think it will give you an infection. Use KY Jelly if anything! You can now buy tampons that have a lubricant on the applicator, or maybe try ones without the applicator.
duh why do people ask questions they know the answer to your making your self look llike a fruit cake!
please don't put olive oil anywere near down there lol
KY jelly is a better option. It's meant to go up your front bum ya know, not your bottom!!
Only if it is extra virgin. :)

    Couldn't resist

I did a quick search. I believe olive oil and tea tree oil are actually used as a natural treatment for yeast infections so it's probably okay.
    eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww thats disgusting
    no
if u put anythin on it to slide it in easy then ur masturbating with it !!!
No more olive oil girl... That's not good. They do tell you you can use petroleum jelly or KY jel
r u crazy!!!??? NO they are not made to have anything put on them.....just relax %26amp; use a bit of water if anything PLEASE!!!
    R u MAD?
What to talk about Olive Oil, No oil or oil based lubricant is recommended since its never safe. Water based lubricant is recommended for the purpose.

But the best is, NOT to go for such practices.

Have patience for real pleasure in live sex.
I don't see why it would cause any infections as long as it's straight out the bottle. But it would probably be better to use something like vaseline or KY jelly.
Normal vaseline will do. But dont see why you cant use olive oil.
The best thing to use is VASELINE. I was advised this was the safest by my GP as it contains nothing that can irritate skin or cause any problems whatsoever.

I found after a couple of days i had no problems and could do without as i relaxed more, also make sure you push it up as far as possible, don't worry it cant go anywhere but if you dont it will be really uncomfortable as you will be able to feel it. if you cant feel it then it is in correctly.

Oh and make sure you wash your hands before and after.

Just 1 more thing, you can buy them with vaseline already on, so this proves that this will not cause you any trouble.http://www.lil-lets.com/products/extra-c鈥?/a>

    Hope this helps.
use ky jelly. this works very well because it is designed for that and will easily dissolve. do not use olive oil this is not designed for ';down there'; and will irritate you!
    ..
i wouldnt...... it would be to slipery and the tampon may slip eaither in to far or out
why not get pre lubricated product?
you could try Vaseline or KY jelly from chemist they are OK for down stairs
    only if you're a man.
I would not use olive oil. Try K Y Lubrication
in order to insert tampon just lift you leg on toilet and insert no need for olive oil if you are still having problems get ky jelly which is designed for that.
That is seriously Gross. I hope you are not considering using that same bottle for use in the kitchen too. Eeeeewwwww.

If you ever want ANYONE to come over for dinner EVER again Keep that question to yourself Rebbecca.
No. Do not do that. If it is really uncomfortable, try a different brand or size, or do not use tampons.
    go 4 it

If vegetable oil is made of vegetables, and olive oil is made from olives, then what is baby oil made from?

I have a funny story for you.

In some underdeveloped countries they have to show pictures of the product on the label so people will know what it is.

When Gerber marketed to one of these countries they didn't change their packaging. The baby food jars showed pictures of smiling white babies.

People were up in arms because they thought these jars had pureed babies in them.

I thought of that when I read your question. I learned that in college in my international business class.

Can canola/vegtable oil substitute olive oil?

i have a recipe that calls for browning chicken breasts in olive oil before baking...i was wondering if i could substitute some cooking oil i have for the olive oil...or are they too different? the cooking oil i have says its a mix of vegtable/canola/and olive oil....but i just wanted to know to be safe! thanks! Can canola/vegtable oil substitute olive oil?
I experienced that all the cooking oils tastes almost the same except olive oil. Olive oil has its own unique smell and taste. If you want to fry the chicken in oil I think you can use any of your choice it should not make a big difference. I don't like olive oil deep fried food mostly. I like canola or sunflower oil. Now its your choice if you like olive oil or not but any other oil will perform the same job.

good luck with your recipes. Can canola/vegtable oil substitute olive oil?
it may lose the fragrance of the olive -- so if you don't care for that- it should be OK
Yes, it won't make difference browning. Olive oil is just better for you. It won't take high temperatures anyway, but canola or vegetable will be fine for anything like that. They keep saying melt butter, thats good but real butter, cause margarine has water and will pop!
I would use half canola and some butter.
it could, but you would get a better taste if you melted some butter then added a bit of oil to the pan and heated that, as a substitute.
yes you can use as a substitute veg/canola oil. however, the tatse of the food will change because the oils taste different.
Absolutely. The only difference will be in the flavor and some nutrients.
Yes, vegetable oil can be substituted for olive oil as long as the recipe calls for regular olive oil. If it calls for extra virgin olive oil then you have to us extra virgin because the taste would be different.

In fact, many cooks substitute regular olive oil in place of vegetable oil on a regular basis when saut茅ing, pan frying, or browning.
Of course. Canola and refined olive oil have very similar compositions (high in monounsaturated fat and low in both saturated fat and polyunsaturated fat).

    How is olive oil made?

I would like to know how it is made from scratch. How is olive oil made?
press olives, extra virgin is from the first pressing, later pressing are less pure and more bitter, you really need have olive trees, like in orchard proportions to make it from scratchHow is olive oil made?
    press an olive
The olives are put in a press and, umm, well, pressed and out comes the olive oil. In fact what you got is Virgin olive oil. That's all Virgin means, that it is pressed without any heating or steam or chemical extraction.
Here is a website that you can buy an olive oil press from. But simply put, you press and olive in order to get the oil out of it.
    maybe an olive tree?
Visited an olive grove and oil processing plant while traveling in Spain. The olives are taken by conveyer to large presses where the oil is extruded through a series of pressings and the oil gets refined. Vigin oil is determined by the acidity of the oil, not necessarily the pressing although first press is often virgin. Very interesting procedure.
They simply press a bunch of olives until all the moisture (oil, water) is extracted. They do this several times.

The oil from the first press is whats known as ';Virgin'; Olive oil.
Put a bunch of olives in a barrel and step on them.

Watch the pits though , they are hell on the feet.

Is it safe to use olive oil on African-American infants hair?

What is the best and safest thing to use on the hair of an African-American infants hairIs it safe to use olive oil on African-American infants hair?
Olive oil and baby oil are fine.

Be careful in the sun - the oil magnifies the heat and your baby's head would burn very quickly. Is it safe to use olive oil on African-American infants hair?
I used baby oil gel... it smells nice, especially the lavender scent. You should be careful not to use too much, but if the right amount is used the hair will be moisturized and the curls defined. BTY: I am mixed black and white, my sons father is black.
I don't know what is best, but olive oil is natural, so I don't think it would be unsafe to use. No styling stuff tough
I would think not it is for cooking!!
yes extra virgin olive oil is fine but a little baby oil is better and less greasy. Also the scalp is very tender and thin so the olive oil could irritate the scalp. Baby oil is fine after 6 months when the hair starts to become kinky use what you use in your hair is a smaller amount but it won't hurt baby, also get a conditioning shampoo and dangler helps with dryness too!
my sis used TCB on my daughters thick hair, and she is four months, it worked wonders and it doesn't have a harsh smell or texture. it was great.

Does cooking with olive oil cause cancer?

sheryl crow says so.Does cooking with olive oil cause cancer?
If that were true, there would be no living Italians....they would have all died from cancer.....duh!!!Does cooking with olive oil cause cancer?
Use fats in moderation in your diet.

I am a firm believer that LIVING causes cancer.

I have a degree in chemistry and spent several post graduate years studying human physiology and I can tell you that the only way that olive oil could be a PARTICULAR culprit is if you over heated it on a regular basis and ended up with carcenogenic side products due to combustion. Don't fry with it. Fortunately if you tried to fry with it it would smoke and you would run screaming out of your house as the smoke alarm rang loudly in your ears.

Pour olive oil (sparingly) on your salad or into your spaghetti sauce and raise your glass of red wine to sky. Salut!
one could argue the act of living invariably leads to cancer....provided one isn't struck down by some other tragedy before the cancer kicks in.
