if u want to use real olive oil leave it in ur hair over night then wash it out but if u want u can try this not only does it make ur hair grow but it changes the texture if u cornrow ur hair n don't take it out till one wk then it will make ur hair grow b/c ur not doin to much to it n ur hair begins to grow...this is what my mom use to do to my hair n my hair grew alot but when i got older i cut it n now i'm doin the method again and this method as well well when ur younger ur hair grows nice n faster b/c of the exercise n deit u've grown up with...i had the same problem u have i use to have long hair down where my bra strap is and i choped it to ear length and it took awhile to grow back...but now its past my clavical...took 2yrs to find the best way to grow it back...what i do is i use oil base condionter n shampoo and precondition my hair b4 i wash it like hot oil treatments or put cond. on the ends of my hair then i wash it and i leave a lil put of cond. on the ends to keep it perfect from the heat n also from brushin it like crazy..i also take prenatal vitamins which help b/c of the folic aicd and vitamin b...also just trim the ends where u see a split end not to much just enough so it won't go ne higher...if u try this method it should help the hair to come back nice b/c i told my friend the same thing n she can't stop tellin me thank u

get creme of nature shampoo, at one conditioner, and palmer's olive oil sprayWhat other products can you use other than a olive oil based root stimulator???
OMG.. do not use regular olive oil or any other household products. .They do not do good only harm. They coat the hair and have a drying effect on it that makes it worse. What u really need is to use a heat protectent spray b 4 u use your flat iron, blow dryer ect. Then when u are done use a paste or a styling cream ( that is 4 hair!) when u are done.... Anyone ever try soaking your razor between shaves in olive oil to keep the blade sharp and corrosion-free?

From what I read, pre shave oils are basically a mixture of olive oil and castor oil. I suspect the expensive blade-soaking product I use now (which works) is similar in composition. There's nothing out there that I can find on this. Seems like soaking the razor in olive oil/or olive oil and castor oil might be a common sense, uh, solution, but I think I may be missing something.Anyone ever try soaking your razor between shaves in olive oil to keep the blade sharp and corrosion-free?
I do it all the time. Just plain olive oil. I find that it works just fine, and it costs less. It keeps the razor sharp and I get fewer nicks. I shave a much larger area than most men and the oil makes the blade glide more smoothly over the skin throughout the shave.Anyone ever try soaking your razor between shaves in olive oil to keep the blade sharp and corrosion-free?
Cool, I didn't know that. I'm gonna try it for sure!
Wow, I didn't know that. I'm gonna try it for sure!
Makes perfect sense to me,, Olive, or any other oil will keep your razor blades protected from the air which is what makes them rust.

Plus it has to cheaper, so that's all to the good. If I was you, I sure would.
OK, but with the high price of olive oil, isn't it cheaper to replace the blade / razor since they are cheap ?

What is the difference between virgin and extra virgin olive oil?

extra virgin is the most pure... it's the best you can buy....What is the difference between virgin and extra virgin olive oil?
filteringWhat is the difference between virgin and extra virgin olive oil?
Olive oil comes with many names like Virgin, Extra Virgin, Pure, Lite and what they discribe are how the oil is processed. Olives come from olive trees and are pressed to create olive oil. How they are pressed, the extraction method and how they are handled afterward is how one determines what label they receive.

Virgin Olive Oil is mechanicall extracted by machines but with no chemicals.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is also mechanically extracted but must be judged both analytically as well as taste tests to determine that the oil is free from defects. Any oil found with slight defects but can be consumed by humans is rated, FINE.

Pure olive oil and light olive oil are blends of cheap ';Refined'; oil with virgin oil. The ratio is typically 95% refined oil or pomace with just 5% virign oil. They are cheap to produce but you may not find those saving at the grocery store. For what's in them, they are not a bargin. You might as well call them ';impure';.

The bottom line is you want to buy ';extra virgin'; olive oil for the biggest bang for your buck. It is an all natural product with distinctive flavors based on where it comes from and should taste clean and not overpowering.

:) Good question.
See the PBS program America's Test Kitchen. They answer all sorts of questions like this in the show, in their cookbooks, and DVD's and online.

I think the difference is in the manner of extraction, heat and filteration in the preparation of the oil, and in use it is about quality flavor and the uses that each is best suited for.

extra virgin olive oil is produced from the very first pressing of the olives.

  • Which oil is better for dogs? Cod liver oil or extra virgin olive oil?

I have a 1 year old rottie with dry skin %26amp; a dull coat. I have already taken him to the vet %26amp; started giving him e.virgin olive oil but haven't really noticed a difference. I know that oils should be a part of his diet so I would like to know which is the better oil to include in his meals.Which oil is better for dogs? Cod liver oil or extra virgin olive oil?
Salmon oil is the best - the omega 3 fatty acids will help really fast. All my dogs get 1 capsule daily.Which oil is better for dogs? Cod liver oil or extra virgin olive oil?
What are you feeding the dog? if it is a properly balanced food formula no supplements should be necessary.

Is the dog blowing it's coat? This is a normal function and you should relax and just put up with some flake skin for a few weeks. Trust me the condition will correct it's self once the dog rids it's self of the unneeded hair.

I have one that looks like hell right now, by next week she will look like she has been on a diet or something. Then after a trip to the groomer she will shine like a new coin.
fish oil- omega 3 (mercury free) Deep cold water fish w/ DHA (don't get it at the pet store, buy it for people, it's cheaper)

my rottie had the same problem even though she was getting a top rated food (Innova Large breed puppy $50/30lb. bag). the vet said it was just very dry skin. trust me it was BAD and any stress made it worse. when i took her to the vet she looked like she had been rolling around in a sand box it got so bad ! (apparently she wasn't thrilled w/ the vet or the ride @ 10 wks. old---she's 7 mo. now)

she gets 2- 2400 mg./day. after about 6-8 wks. her skin and coat looked amazing (i was about to give up-don't). her skin is great, no more flaking and her coat is sooooooo shiny!

    hope this helps. good luck.
Fish oils, Cod liver or Salmon...however if you only have olive oil then thats OK

Can someone show me a picture of the exact olive oil for hair growth?

Please, im trying to buy it.

Or Castor Oil.Can someone show me a picture of the exact olive oil for hair growth?
I've heard that Castor Oil works better. You can find it with the laxatives and stuff at your local drugstore. Just to give you the heads up though, it's really sticky. I also know you can buy it at naturalpath stores, it's organic there, and might even work better. But if you really want to make your hair grow, make sure to trim it on a regular basis. I wanted to grow my hair, and I wasn't trimming it because I didn't want it shorter and it wasn't growing. Then I started to trim it and it grew a lot faster. Also, I heard that if you do a hand or head stand for like 5 minutes everyday it grows faster. It sounds stupid, but apparently it works. Can someone show me a picture of the exact olive oil for hair growth?
castor oil? really? To ingest or to put in your hair? cuz if it's to ingest....omg that's so NOT worth it!

Will drinking olive oil start labor and/or contractions?

No it will give you a very upset stomach though. Will drinking olive oil start labor and/or contractions?
No, the age-old way to start labor is by drinking castor oil. Generally, you would want to drink it with orange juice or coke -- something sugary to help it go down. It is awful tasting. This should not be done unless you are at the end of your term and it should be done under the care of a health care professional, doula, midwife, ob doc, etc. The castor oil makes you have violent diarrhea and definitely cleans out your system, so be prepared. In theory, the contracting of your lower GI due to the diarrhea will help commence labor contractions.

If you decide to go this route, good luck and be careful! Will drinking olive oil start labor and/or contractions?
no but it will probably make you sick and make you poop everywhere when you do give birth
I think you'd get a wicked case of diarrhea.
    Please don't do that...........

What makes olive oil extra virgin? Why is it called that? Also...what about the other varieties?

I do a lot of cooking with olive oil and just got to thinking...why on earth is it 'virgin'? lol. everything calls for extra virgin olive oil...and when I was at the store I saw 'light' and 'extra light' aswell. Why are they categorized as they are???What makes olive oil extra virgin? Why is it called that? Also...what about the other varieties?
';Val'; is right, the frist pressing is the finest quality, then the next 2-4 pressings have either to be heated to extract all the old up to a point were the olive mash is mixed with a neutral oil and when it settles it is strained off and that is were the Pomice/Pumice oil comes from, it is just olive flavoured veg oil but nice for cooking or bulk salad dressings.

The Light and Extra light are just diluted with a soya or veg oil to lighten there taste and calorie content, not really what I would have used when a chef, for salads and appetizers the best available, I actually prefer Greek or Sicilain over the expensive Italian ones, there are lots out ther from Spain, Portugal, Lebanon, Syria and France all like wine have different complexitys, I always used Spanish Gallo for cooking and Krinos Greek for other things, I just like the taste. What makes olive oil extra virgin? Why is it called that? Also...what about the other varieties?
Extra virgin olive oil means its from the first press of the olive. meaning its the purest. as far as the light and extra light im not sure. rachel ray didnt go that in depth when she explained em lol
It is purified more and has a nuttier taste.

Will a teaspoon of olive oil help ?

Most natural oils have acids that are beneficial to an animals fur. There probably are other benefits to the animal besides that too. It certainly won't hurt the animal. Will a teaspoon of olive oil help ?
I wolud not do that...unless recommended by a vet.i think it would give them the runs.mineral oil is used to treat constipation in dogs and cats..but i never heard of olive oil to help them live longer.i have 9 cats.and only feed them dry cat food.and give some treats of canned turkey or tuna and sardines in oil..about once a week...they are all very healthy..the oldest is 16 years and youngest is 6 months old.they do sell a vitamin also for cats..it helps with things they are not getting in there diet.good luck..and enjoy your animal...they are Truly our best friends.
My vet has recommended olive oil for a shiny coat and will help control dandruff. Pour the teaspoon of olive oil over the food
putting olive oil in cats water helps keep furballs down and promotes a healthy coat with normal shedding practice.

  • How is it that olive oil is not bad for you?

so olive oil has about 120 calories and of the 120 calories...120 are fat calories. so basically it's pure fat. but it has no colesterol. what is the scientific reason that olive oil is good for you and does not hurt you. also are there any other alternative oils that i could buy that are even better than olive oil? i love olive oil and bread. any help would be great. How is it that olive oil is not bad for you?
It is because it is almost all mono and poly unsaturated fats which are VERY good for your heart and HDL cholestorol (the good one). And nope, olive oil is the best one for you.How is it that olive oil is not bad for you?
Nobody mentioned that it is loaded with anti-oxidants such as polyphenols that slow down ageing caused by decreased cellular replication. Avast free radicals.... Report Abuse

Olive oil isn't bad for you, but like everything else, it needs to be consumed in moderation.

For example, nuts have been deemed to be exeptionally healthy for your heart. But one cup of it has over 1,000 calories. That's why the suggested daily intake is only about 20 nuts per day.

Too much of a good thing will become a bad thing!
Because olive oil is an unsaturated fat.

Unsaturated fat means that in the hydrocarbon tail of olive oil, there is a double bond between the carbons, thus making it super hard to solidify. So, when it is in your body, it stays a liquid and does not stick to your blood vessels and cause heart disease. Plus, it is a heaver molecule which makes it better than canola oil in regards to sticking to your vessels.

Did you know that it doesn't have cholesterol in it?

Olive oil is the best for you thats why its most costly than other oils.

Also, the 120 ';fat'; calories are stored for energy when your body needs them. Your body also builds from these fat molecules (lipids) to form triglycerides, and other fatty acid chains. It uses them to build cell membranes (phospholipid bilayer) and it uses them for energy.

    Its pretty cool.
Olive oil is high in Essential Fatty Acids. Your body needs ESA's to regulate mood and nerve function. Olive oil is high in calories but it is a good choice.

fat does not make you fat. olive oil has plenty of healthy fat for you which is needed not only for healthy skin, organs, brain function, but to help you lose weight. bread is another story though.....
Your body needs fat without you would die. Olive oil contains healthy fats.
There is a different between fats, some being natural and some processed. Olive oil is a natural fat and and doesn't have any extra things in it that have been processed through.
Cause olives are good for you.
its not that it's not bad for you, the caloric content is high. It's that it's loaded with good fats, mono- and poly- unsaturated fats, which are good for the heart, which makes olive oil a good substitute for cooking, other than vegetable.

Edit: Btw, it's oil, and your supprised by the fact that it's all fat?
Moderation in everything, but olive oil is better than hydrogenated vegetable oil because of less processing and the way the body responds to a natural oil. If you love it, have your bread and oil every couple-three days, but every day is not 'good' for you.

Should olive oil be kept in the refrigerator?

You can, but it doesn't have to be refrigerated.

    Olive Oil Storage Temperature

Many people ask about the proper storage temperature for olive oil. Heat speeds up all of the above reactions. Keeping your oil next to the stove in a clear bottle will quickly age it. Better to keep a large container in a dark, cool cupboard and pour a small amount into a dispenser for everyday use. Olive oil can be put into the refrigerator or freezer without harm, which will greatly extend its shelf life. Waxes in the oil may crystallize out into needles or a slurry when the oil is chilled. Warming the oil back to room temperature will re-liquefy it.Should olive oil be kept in the refrigerator?
never heard of anyone doing that..Should olive oil be kept in the refrigerator?
Never! It'll absorb the flavors of everything else, and it will also turn solid.
    NO

Just keep it in the cupboard.

Constant temperature changes when removing it from/putting it in the fridge will affect it, it may also pick up taints from other things stored in the fridge if not properly sealed.
you can - but I keep mine right out on the counter. Never had a problem
I store it in the fridge after about a month.
    don't have to
No, i keep mine in the cubbard or beside my stove...then again i use mine frequently so...
Store the oil in its original glass bottle with lid tightly capped, and keep it in a cool place away from the light, like your pantry... not in cabinets near the stove.... Try to buy it in an amount that you are likely to use up within 2-3 months.

Virgin olive oil has a lower acidity than other olive oils. Oil from second and subsequent pressings has some fruit pulp in it and burns more readily. Virgin or extra-virgin is best for cooking...other olive oils, which do have more flavor, are best for salads and uncooked dishes.

    Enjoy!
there's no need to. if you do, v o o will not harden or soilidify, but the cool temp won't help your cooking time. just keep it in a sealed container at room temp if it won't be used for quite a while. just to ad lib, reports have it that there are benefits in taking a spoonful of v o o daily
    4 enemies of olive oil:

    air, heat, light and time.

Once open, the olive oil will begin to oxidize, losing its subtle, fresh flavors. Store in a cool, dark place preferrably the cupboard. Only buy what you will use in 4 - 6 weeks.
    That is not necessary
    absolutely not, it will harden!
Never keep olive oil in the fridge. The texture of the oil will change. Olive oil should always be stored at room temperature.
I keep it the refrigerator in a tightly sealed bottle to prevent it from going rancid. If you buy small bottles and use them within 2-3 months, it is not necessary. However if you live in a warm climate, refrigeration may always be a good idea.
. if the bottle doesn't say refrigerate after opening . then No.
No, it coagulates. Under the kitchen cabinet away from any heat is good for two months or so. Never buy olive oil in quantities that will last longer for you, olive oil should never be opened more than three months. Even if you keep it in the refrigerator it may not get rancid, but it will have lost much of it's flavor!
no, leave it at room temp
No, the shelf life is long.
    Nope!
I have never kept mine in the fridge. I generally buy smaller bottles and they don't last long.
    NO, NEVER!!

It will not keep it fresher nor will it improve the flavor. It might thicken up and thats not good
Many people keep olive oil in the refigerator thinking that it will extend its shelf life or in order to avoid it to get rancid....this is ONE OF THE WORSE PLACES to keep it !!

Most of the time you can find bottles without harvest and expiration date...that should be the first thing to care of buying your bottle of olive oil at the grocery store rather than thinking how to preserve it later!! How can we think about extending its shelf life if we don't even know when it was produced?!?

Bottles of olive oil should not be refrigerated because condensation can occur on the lid and drip water back into the oil, which could spoil the oil鈥檚 flavor and cause rancidity.

The secret then is to keep it just at room temperature and away from the direct light and use it and be sure to buy a bottle where I can read the date of production or at least the expiration date.

Once the bottle is open it will last two-three months with no problem if it is a good product.

You'll find more details clicking on the links below.
no but if you did it wouldnt harm you
    no d
    No.
no its best left at room temp keep it in a cabinit
i dont think thats a good idea...

What can I replace olive oil with?

I want to make tomato and mozzarella salad, but I don't have any olive oil. What can I use instead? Please don't say ';make something else';.What can I replace olive oil with?
you could use some salad dressing (probably italien would taste good), ahh this makes me so hungry now. i like tomato and mozzarella. :DWhat can I replace olive oil with?
    Vegetable oil

    Canola oil

    Corn oil

Peanut oil (just be careful of people with peanut allergies)

    Grape-seed oil

***Definitely NOT sesame oil since it has a very strong tastes that will overpower all the other flavors and ruin the dish***

    pretty much any oil

you don't have to use very much
a bit of balsamic vinegar or normal vinegar gives it a zing and it tastes really good. or you could just use salad dressing

    good luck! :D
You can in a pinch use any light tasting salad or vegetable oil it just won't have that ';fruity'; flavor like EVOO
    Use whatever oil you have.

My guess is you'll be sorry with that substitution, vegetable oil has practically no taste Olive oil tastes like ........Well Olives do you think olive flavored carrot cake sounds good? A better sub might be canola oil for a cake. In cooking use olive whenever possible .
Yes indeed. I don't think I would use a fine Extra VIrgin variety though, as they are usually too strongly flavored for cakes (better for salads, sauteing).
Sure, why not! There's actually ';olive oil'; cakes.
Yes but use a lite extra virgin olive oil so you will not get a heavy taste
Olive Oil would work absolutely fine :) Much better for you too.
YES YES YES and bravo to you for choosing a healthy alternative.

Carrot and olive oil sounds like a health food cake to me.
Sure you could use olive oil, also try to use applesauce in the recipe to replace the vegetable oil. I have provided a recipe below using applesauce!

  • Can olive oil be used for frying?

or is it only used for cold items such as salad dressings? I tried frying potatoes in it and it just didn't taste right. Can olive oil be used for frying?
I believe the smoke point for olive oil is too low for deep frying. (I confirmed this at the web site listed under ';sources.';)

A lower smoke point doesn't allow you to get your oil hot enough to cook the food without it absorbing a lot of the oil. That's probably why your potatoes didn't taste as good.

If I'm not mistaken, peanut or canola oil will work best for deep frying. Also, make sure you use a deep-frying or candy thermometer to maintain the proper temperature or, again, your food will turn out greasy. Can olive oil be used for frying?
No, it shouldn't be used for frying. Olive Oil will burn once it reaches a certain temperature making it taste ';funny'; or ';bad'; - this is why your potatoes didn't taste right. Olive Oil can be used when cooking at a low temperature, just be careful not to get it to hot or cook too long.

Canola oil is a healthy alternative you can use for frying potatoes, chicken, etc.

    Hope this helps!
olive oil is a very expensive oil you can kinda fry with it but its not like you would use it like you would vegstable oil to fry lets say chicken you can rub some on some meat and cook it in the oven to make the skin crispy like oven fried chicken but for like you you did no it wouldnt really work. but you can do potatos in the oven like that rub them with a genorous amount of olive oil and rub them with some rosemary and thyme sprinkle little garlic chopped or powdered and bake until crispy or soft or your pref,....
you shouldnt use olive oil for deep frying or pan frying. only use it to saute or brown meat or veg.

use canola or peanut oil to fry with.

if you tried to fry with olive oil, i bet you turned the heat up too high and it burned. that's why it tasted bad.

olive oil should only be used in small amounts to quickly cook things (quick meaning before it burns) at med. temps.
Use the good expensive ones for your dressings, and the cheaper ones for cooking.

Watch for the flash-point as you don't want them smoking. Depending on what you are making, it may give you food a slight olive taste.
I, personally do not like the taste of olive oil, so I substitute corn oil. Olive oil has a lower smoke point than other oils and does, I agree, make food taste ';off';. Try it in salads, instead.
no, you can't coz fire absorb olive oil faster than others. olive oil doesn't have a wonderful smell but it is a healthy and better oil.
What do you fry in otherwise, butter? Olive oil should never 'not taste right' especially if it was being used with something like potatoes. Maybe you used waaaaay too much.
olive oil has a different taste. I fry with it for certain things. You have to slow fry so it does not burn. also use things it would taste good with like spaghetti
it is not great to fry with but you can it burns easy so you need to watch it closer.
Y es you can use a little of it for stir fying vegetables. the exra virgin olive oil is very nice
It's what my parents always do.

    It doesn't taste funny.

I suppose it might taste weird if you used like really extra virgin olive oil or something, but yeah
better not to fry in olive oil...!
    sure

yes it can. But u have to rub on a lot. My friend soaks her hands in olive oil for 5 min, to moisturize nails and soften hands
Yes, and it is good for your skin.
    YES IT REALLY WORK'S
Yes but..... not alone. You ahve to kix it with apple vinegar.

And be careful how to use it :

1- two teaspoonful of Olive oil

    2- 3/4 of a teaspoon of vinegar

mix well, apply with a cotton for ONLY 3 mins -not more, because vinegar can burn your skin.

wash thoroughly with fresh sweet water

    see the immediate results.
Yes it does. My nephew has eczema and I bathe him in it once a month, it takes off all the dead skin and leaves his skin soft and beautiful.

I heard somewhere that cinnamon stimulates the scalp so I do the hot oil treatment every week. After it, my scalp feels warm and 'active' if you know what I mean, like there's toothpaste on it. Is this healthy for my hair or am I messing with it? Btw, I was wondering, is it possible to lighten your hair that way then??? Someone said cinammon bleaches gently...Once a week I rub warm olive oil mixed with cinnamon into my scalp. Is this healthy?
    Hi

Nothing wrong with this although you may find your hair becoming a little greasy. It is recommended to use a specific product with the relevant ingredients. There are some great products for your hair that contain olive oil.Once a week I rub warm olive oil mixed with cinnamon into my scalp. Is this healthy?
I have never heard of this treatment, but i have heard that anything with olive oil works well to restore moisture and shine. I've also never heard that cinnamon lightens, but I would only recommend going lighter with a stylist. Too many things can go wrong with lightening yourself - ie orange hair, brittle hair etc. Mayo and avacado are supposed to be really good for your hair as well, just dont overdo it or you'll have a greasy mess!

Does olive oil help work knots out of hair?

i have about 3 big knots in my hair, and it hurts to brush it out. i looked on google for a few days, and kept noticing people mention olive oil. olive oil would make the hair slippery and help get the knots out easier.

    if you have done this before on your self or someone else, does the olive oil help at all? D;

my hair isn't necessarily a nest [though i had it in the summer; ouch] but the knots aren't small either. so, does olive oil help at all? please, and thank you. :DDoes olive oil help work knots out of hair?
Yes, any oil will work! (Except motor oil, that just burns.)

  • Is olive oil actually good for the skin?

to me it sounds like it would clog pores and cause major breakoutsIs olive oil actually good for the skin?
    According to Wikipedia:

In the United States, producers of olive oil may place the following health claim on product labels:

Limited and not conclusive scientific evidence suggests that eating about two tablespoons (23 grams) of olive oil daily may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease due to the monounsaturated fat in olive oil. To achieve this possible benefit, olive oil is to replace a similar amount of saturated fat and not increase the total number of calories you eat in a day.[6]

This decision was announced November 1, 2004 by the Food and Drug Administration after application was made to the FDA by producers. Similar labels are permitted for omega-3 fatty acids and walnuts which also contain monounsaturated oil[7].

A health study in 2005 compared the effects of different types of olive oil on arterial elasticity. Test subjects were given a serving of 60 grams of white bread and 40 milliliters of olive oil each morning for two consecutive days. The study was conducted in two stages. During the first stage, the subjects received polyphenol-rich oil (';extra virgin'; oil contains the highest amount of polyphenol antioxidants). During the second phase, they received oil with only one fifth the phenolic content. The elasticity of the arterial walls of each subject was measured using a pressure sleeve and a Doppler laser. It was discovered that after the subjects had consumed olive oil high in polyphenol antioxidants, they exhibited increased arterial elasticity, while after the consumption of olive oil containing fewer polyphenols, they displayed no significant change in arterial elasticity. It is theorized that, in the long term, increased elasticity of arterial walls reduces vascular stress and consequentially the risk of two common causes of death - heart attacks and stroke. This could, at least in part, explain the lower incidence of both ailments in regions where olive oil and olives are consumed on a daily basis.

In addition to the internal health benefits of olive oil, topical application is quite popular with fans of natural health remedies. Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) is the preferred grade for moisturizing the skin, especially when used in the Oil Cleansing Method (OCM). OCM is a method of cleansing and moisturizing the face with a mixture of EVOO, castor oil (or another suitable carrier oil) and a select blend of essential oils.Is olive oil actually good for the skin?
According to my mom's naggin, no it isn't, supposedly it just makes it greasy and oily (obviously)

But I wouln't know first hand, but she's a trained cosmetologist and a mom cosmetologist knows best.

sorry, I couldn't be of any more help. =)
it's just supposed to be a moisturizer. If yu have oily skin, it'll prolly do the things you've listed
    yes, according to my doctor.
it is a moisterizer (spelling)...used in moderation, it wouldn't hurt...it is an ingredient in lots of ';natural'; skin and hair products...I have mulatto hair, and my mom used to put it on my hair and scalp at night, that and vaseline...of course, you should wash it out before you leave the house...
yes..olive oil is good for the skin..it is better 2 use as lotion than lotion its self..because lotion has chamicals and all those things but olive oil is great 4 the skin cuz it is natural oil and there is NO chemicals or anything in it..
it is okay in small doses
I'm assuming that you're not referring to the consumption of Olive Oil, but rather using it topically as a skin treatment.

If so, then I would say that Olive Oil is going to be just like any other skin treatment. It's very individual to the user so what could be an incredibly beneficial treatment for one user, could also have a negative effect on another. Your best way of finding out if it would work well for you would be to try it and see.

I would recommend using Avon's Planet Spa Mediteranean Olive Oil Line. They have a

    *Whipped Body Creme

    *Bath %26amp; Shower Souffle

    *Conditioning Hair Mask

They're all amazing on me, so I hope you like them.

    Hope this helps!
Its recommended for cuticles, nails and as a deep conditioner for hair, and it works. Some all natural face products have OO l as an ingredient, but I wouldnt put OO on my face straight up-too thick and goopy
I use it on my skin after I've been in the sun. If I get a sunburn, I add some drops of lemon juice to it and dap it on. I know people in Europe who swear by it. I've not had problems with it causing me breakouts. I have more problems with lotions like Vaseline and even Victoria's Secret causing breakouts!
Olive oil is good for your nails.
it just makes your skin a little greecy, its does not do any thig that helps u so dont even bother

What is the best way to unblock my ear, as it's been blocked with wax for over 1 month? I'm using olive oil...

I don't want to have it irrigated if possible as I am a Sound Engineer and I have been told by a nurse that there is a small chance of permanent hearing loss. Will the olive oil treatment work eventually? What is the best way to unblock my ear, as it's been blocked with wax for over 1 month? I'm using olive oil...
Audi clean is a fine mist spray that u squirt into ur ear it helps dissolve the wax so it can drain out u will find it in most chemists. its very safe and recommended by doctors can even be used on small children, cotton buds only shove the wax further in. i used it in a last ditch attempt to clear my blocked ear like u i didnt want syringing it took a couple of hours but it did work. What is the best way to unblock my ear, as it's been blocked with wax for over 1 month? I'm using olive oil...
go to the doctor and ask to get them syringed.
Olive oil will soften the wax, but you may have an ear infection and will therefore need antibiotics or an ear spray (I am speaking from personal experience).

No harm in seeing a doctor, you can refuse if he wants to syringe your ear. He may be able to advise you to alternatives.

    Good Luck
Use Otex ear drops for a few days to loosen the wax, and if the blocking is still there, go to your doctors to get the ear syringed. There is no point going straight to the doctors as they will only send you away again to put ear drops in to loosen the wax for syringing later.

BEWARE: the doctor must check for ear infection before syringing though, this is vitally important!! I nearly lost my hearing in both ears because my doctor of the time didn't do this and just kept syringing every month.

And do NOT whatever you do, use cotton buds! This will only make it worse and possible damage your inner ear permanently.
put your head over a bowl of boiling wayter and albas oil - or vicks - it unblocks everything
I used to get the same problem quite a lot. I went to the docs and got some ear-drops, which clears it over a few days, sorry I can't remember the name. I was told that syringing could also cause tinitus.
I recently give up smoking an went on the nicotine chewin gum an found huge amounts of wax from ear previously clear try that with gum 4 3 days
Use a solution of 1% peroxide..lay on Ur side and have someone gentle pour into ur ear it will bubble the wax loose...the place some cotton wool or a cloth over your ear and turn over to do the other ear....its a funny feeling but bear with it cause it does work and does no harm to your ear. You usually don't need to put more ';oil'; into your ear if you have an over production of wax already.
There are some drops that you can get at your local pharmacists, they are more effective than olive oil. You have to warm them a little (the instructions come with the drops).

If these do not work in 24 hours, go to your otorinolaringologist (eye, ear, nose and throat specialist)...

Your profession depends on your hearing...don't put it off!!!
Waxsol is good as is cerumol but you should go to your surgery to confirm it is wax and then they will syringe them
You should see a doctor and they will get a syringe to unblock it. I noticed that someone said that olive oil is a myth, i dont think it is and if it is then that person is one of the few people who know that.
See a doctor, moron. Olive oil is a myth.
I think you would be best to have it syringed by a nurse. If that is not an option you should maybe try otex ear drops, I would think if the olive oil was going to work it would have done so by now.
Have you ever tried ear wax candles? They are awesome. You can get them at a health food store. You light one end and the other end you put in your ear and it sucks the ear wax out of your ears. You will be amazed how much comes out. The candle fills up. Trust me this will unclog your ear!!! Goodluck!!!
GO TO YOUR DOCS AND THEY`LL SYRINGE IT WITH WARM SALINE TO REMOVE THE BLOCKAGE
Go to an ear specialist and they have a device that shoots water into your ear canal without damaging the ear drum and it clears everything out.
Try 1 part peroxide and 1 part water..dump in ear and hold for about 10-15 seconds then lay over on a towel and let it all run out..then do other ear. My doctor told me to do this because my ears produce a bit much wax..it seems to work for me, but I've never gotten to the point of being completely clogged. Hope you get it taken care of soon!!
Olive oil? Oy vay! Stop the oil and stop by the market or pharmacy and pick up an earwax removal kit. Follow the directions to the letter. This is assuming that you know for a fact that it's cerumen (ear wax) causing the blockage. FYI, when performed correctly, lavage is effective and there is no real chance of permanent hearing loss. Who told you this? A medical assistant or a real nurse? Part of effective ear lavage is the patient using the recommended ear drops for 3 consecutive days prior to lavage. If left untreated, there is a chance of hearing loss.
You can buy over the counter stuff from your pharmacy that works like Otex or as previously said visit you doctor... Please don't use olive oil, it can exacerbate the problem and in a worse case scenario cause permanent hearing damage.
Try ear candling. It's awesome and you feel great after. Most Spas will do it.
I've had my ears blocked with wax before. I had to go to the hospital and they had this contraption that looked like what the dentist use to spray water in your mouth when they clean your teeth, except it actually sucked. They used that to suck the wax out of both of my ears. It was fast and easy.
I am an alternative medicinal therapist and I have many patients with this problem and i use EAR CANDLING and it works a treat, stop putting olive oil into your ear all you are doing is adding to the blockage. You will end up doing more harm than good. Go and see an ear candling therapist

    gloriashealth@btinternet.com
my god no dont do that....i have lots of problems with my ears..since i was a baby..im mostly deaf always have ear infections have one now...but ive been told always never put anything in ur ear ever can damage it never but anything smaller than ur elbow in ur ear and never put something a doctor didnt recommend to u as in olive oil...pls get it checked out so they can take the olive oil out so it wont damage ur earing or ears
its calle dq-tips and they are very bennificial to your health, try those to clean the wax out. sont use olive oil, who does that? that makes it worse, you sont put food in your ears!!! if the q-tips fail to work, go see the doctor again.
    Go doctor's get it syringed
Never heard of olive oil but have heard that Hopi Ear Candles will work to unblock the ear of wax. As the Hopi Ear Candle burns a gentle warmth is experienced around the ear. This warmth stimulates the blood and lymphatic circulation which is soothing and calming. The treatment is non-invasive and gently effective for: Irritation in the ears, Compacted or excessive ear wax, Headaches or migraines, Sinusitis, Rhinitis and Glue Ear, Noises in the ear (tinnitus), Circulatory disturbances in the ear, Colds and flu, Relaxation and stress relief.
lay your head down on the side and pour a cap full of hydrogen

peroxide slowly in your ear. It will be cold, so you may want to soak the bottle in some hot water to warm it up. Once you have the peroxide in your ear, it will start bubbling like crazy and it tickles, but it will bubble it's way through ALL of the excess wax.

If you have alot in there, you may want to repeat the process, but it will be gone, and that's the best way to get rid of an ear infection!
First of all, Olive oil is not going to work.

Ear syringing shoots water into your ear, it bounces off the eardrum and comes back out with the wax.

There are three things that could happen:

You get it syringed, you fit into the highly likely set where there is a successful result. Your ears are better and you can live normally.

You get it done, but you happen to be in the minority who looses the hearing. No more hearing in that ear.

You do nothing at all, your wax builds up, and you loose your hearing as the wax hardens to an immovable blockage of the ear.

You have more chance of winning the lottery jackpot than suffering the eardrum rupture.

The chance that you could get hearing loss
Go to an ear doctor (otolaryngologist)! They can clean your ears right in the office. You shouldn't be messing with olive oil or putting anything in your ears at all!
    your freaking nasty dude !

Is it true that if you put olive oil in your hair it makes it really shiny?

Dont know, never heard that before. Sounds interesting though...i might give that a go! Try it on a day that you know you dont need to go out, so if it is all greecy and weird when it drys then you have plenty of time to wash it again. Im gonna try though...lol x
I use spray in olive oil made specifically for hair. I have jet black hair and it makes my hair shiny, however when my hair was blond it looked brassy if I used it.

Can I mix Coconut Oil and Olive Oil, so I can apply them to my hair?

Is it safe, or too much oil?Can I mix Coconut Oil and Olive Oil, so I can apply them to my hair?
It can almost be too much oil. You may want to combine 1 teaspoon of each or if your hair is longer 1 tablespoon of each only. To remove the oi, I'd use baby shampoo. Wash your hair at least twice and good luck. Can I mix Coconut Oil and Olive Oil, so I can apply them to my hair?

Is there any way to really remove olive oil from a T-shirt?

A stain that has already set in on a 50/50 blend t-shirt?

**Without having it done professionally. Is there any way to really remove olive oil from a T-shirt?
From the information I gathered from a well respected source (my mum, mom) I have been informed of a couple of options.

The first is a product that should be available in the US, try Napisan, or if available, a product like Spreen, that spray on stain remover.

The second option, a home remedy for tough stains, is......

    wait for it.......

    ...... Palmolive dishwashing liquid.

Yep, you heard correctly. With this stuff though, you have to hand wash the clothing. My information tells me that it works with 'set' stains. I am told that if this doesn't work, nothing else will.

    See where that gets you.

Well, well, well...... What can I say?

Years of experience counts for something.

    Olive oil for frying chips?

Can we still use olive oil for frying?

So what's the difference with using the vegetable oil.

Will the chips have the same texture when fried?Olive oil for frying chips?
Olive oil or extra virgin olive oil is not good for frying, because the dense the oil is the lower burning point has. Mostly the oil used is canola , soy ,peanut , and others, which are lighter oil but they can be used at higher temperature. If olive oil is used, you will found out that the potato chips will burn faster with out cooking the potatoes. If you like the olive oil flavor , my suggestion is to use a blend oil as 10% olive oil the rest is a vegetable oil as canola,or soy or other.

I hope this helpOlive oil for frying chips?
It is a very expensive way to fry chips. Once you get your olive oil to a high temp, it ruins the benefits of it. You might as well cook with a canola oil and save your olive oil for other things. No high temps for olive oil.
Olive oil is actually a better choice than vegetable oil--less saturated fat. Just realize that olive oils can add their flavor to whatever you're frying--taste the type of olive oil you want to use to judge how strong a flavor it will add. Texture won't change.
You can use olive oil for frying. However, it has a lower smoke point than vegetable oil does. This basically means that olive oil is going to ';burn'; faster and start to develop off flavors. Also olive oil has more of a flavor than your more neutral flavored vegetable oils. Lastly, olive oil is going to be more expensive.

Health wise it's not going to make a big difference. If you're frying properly (at the proper temp) your foods wont be absorbing very much oil.

    I hope this helps!
No. I've tried it. It doesn't work right. It gets too hot, has an odd taste and doesn't give the same consistancy. Regular vegetable oil or shortning are the 2 best things to fry any kind of potato or vegie chip.

  • Can I use grapeseed oil instead of olive oil on my hair?

I already know how to do it, but I don't have any olive oil.

    Only grapeseed oil...

Please answer my question!!Can I use grapeseed oil instead of olive oil on my hair?
Yes- it is commonly found in hair products and wont do anything harmful. you need to be sure you use it a little at a time until you are satisified or you could feel oily.

In all products grape seed oil is a preferred cosmetic ingredient for damaged and stressed tissues, possessing regenerative and restructuring qualities which allow a better control of skin moisturization. It can help skin retain the normal structure of epithelium cells and nerve cells via supporting the cell membranes. It is noted to be especially effective for repair of the skin around the eyes. Used as an all-over skin moisturizer, grape seed oil is known to reduce the look of stretch marks. A light, thin oil, grape seed oil leaves a glossy film over the skin when used as a carrier oil for essential oils in aromatherapy. It contains more linoleic acid than many other carrier oils. Grape seed oil is also usable as a lubricant for face shaving.

Grape seed oil (also called grapeseed oil or grape oil) is a vegetable oil pressed from the seeds of various varieties of Vitis vinifera grapes, an abundant by-product of winemaking. Grape seed oil is used for: salad dressings, marinades, deep frying, flavored oils, baking, massage oil, sunburn repair lotion, hair products, body hygiene creams, lip balm and hand creams. Most grape seed oil is produced in Italy, with other producing nations including France, Spain, and Argentina.[citation needed] Although known to Europeans for centuries, grape seed oil was not produced or used on a large scale until the 20th century, largely because grape seeds contain a lower percentage of oil as compared to other oil-producing seeds, nuts, or beans.

In short this stuff is good for almost anything :)

I'm making a pizza crust from scratch, do i have to use olive oil? I have a vegetable oil that has added omega 3 that I like to use a lot, could I use that instead?Making a pizza crust, do I HAVE to use olive oil?
    Thats fine.

Canola has the most omega 3.

    But veggie oil will work-:)

I import olive oil and it's very good for you( I agree)

but if she's looking for omega3, then she wants canola or a veggie oil fortified with omega 3.

lol, everyone has a different formula for dough.

    That's a good thing.

We add beer to our mix, another store we know

    adds an egg.

It's all good. That why dough differs in pizzeria's.Making a pizza crust, do I HAVE to use olive oil?
Any oil is fine if you don't have olive oil, which gives a nice taste.

Also add some buttermilk to the dough, it will make it moist and tasty.
Olive oil is best but any oil will function properly. Use your oil if you want, but your pizza crust will be less flavourful.
You should, but it not compulsory, as long as your oil can be used for cooking that's ok.
I don't like the taste of olive oil, so I use corn or vegetable oil.
olive tastes better, but veg oil will work fine.
veggie oil is ok too. i usually add a teaspoon of honey to it . it helps when u stretch the dough later

I was gonna take in a spoonful of Olive Oil, which I heard is good for you, but by accident I ended up taking a spoonful of Grape Oil. Is that bad for me?I took Grape Oil instead of Olive Oil by accident? Is that bad?
NOT AT ALL! They are both good fats.

I believe that Olive oil contains more monosaturated fats and Grape seed oil contains polysaturated. They're both good chill out!!! =DI took Grape Oil instead of Olive Oil by accident? Is that bad?
thats not good for you eating an entire spoonful of any oil. 1 tbsp of olive oil has 120 calories, however it is a healthy fat for your heart and you should use it for cooking, stay away from grapeseed oil, its processed in a different way than olive oil is

Does Rachael Ray ever cook without EVOO (extra virgin olive oil)?

I mean, is there any recipe of hers that doesn't have that in it?! I just got one of her cookbooks and every recipe has it! And NO! It's not a special cookbook for olive oil! lolDoes Rachael Ray ever cook without EVOO (extra virgin olive oil)?
I would have guessed she would put olive oil in everything, even ice cream! Lol. You are right she does seem to use it a lot, and from what I have seen of her recipes, she tends to have something sauteed in just about every dish, which is where the oil comes in.Does Rachael Ray ever cook without EVOO (extra virgin olive oil)?
Its a healthy way of cooking. I use it for cooking , I wouldn't use it for baking, Then again Rachel Ray isn't a baker. she admits it.
Dessert recipes perhaps? I can't imagine her adding olive oil to cakes and cookies (that would be really odd!)
I don't know about Rachael's cakes, but I have seen cake receipes with it. bleh.
LOL. I would say no...Not from what I've seen.

  • Is it ok to cook chicken fried steak in olive oil?

ever since i saw someone else cook it, i've been wanting some, so i decided to buy some steak. but i just realized is all i have is olive oil, and i don't feel like going to the store. lolIs it ok to cook chicken fried steak in olive oil?
You can but they will have a heavy olive oil taste. Remember that olive oil burns easily so use a low setting while frying.,Is it ok to cook chicken fried steak in olive oil?
You certainly can use olive oil, but you must take great care to make certain that it doesn't start to burn on you, because olive oil has a low smoke point. If that happens, the oil will start to break down, and your chicken fried steak won't be terribly tasty.

Also, the olive oil will bring some flavors to the equation that a regular vegetable or canola oil wouldn't, so be prepared for that.
it depends on how you cook the steak. if the oil isn't smoky-hot, you could brown both sides and then bake it. or just bake it. some may say baking something that should be fried is just plain cuckoo-bananas, but you only have olive oil so you must act accordingly, lady.

olive oil ALWAYS tastes olive-oil-y, but if it isn't dark, cloudy and rich, it shouldn't be overwhelming.
I don't think it would taste the same. Go to the store LOL. You can cook it but it won't taste like Good ol' Chicken Fried Steak! Enjoy. I can't eat fried if i want to stay at 110 pounds. LOL
No cause olive oil has a high burning point, you are better off using veg oil that can withstand a higher temperature.
Don't allow it to get too hot or the oil will smoke and burn.
Yes i do it all the time it works just as well.
    yes, that is fine.

Does anyone know how much olive oil i should give my ferret and she is a little less than 6 months old.

don't use laxatone of Vaseline for sure petroleum based products block the absorption of nutrients of food by sticking to the intestinal walls. Use 1 teaspoon. Here is a post I did on a thread about intestinal blockages. There are different things you can use to help. The name is weloveourweasels there as well

    http://holisticferret.proboards80.com/in鈥?/a>

Also despite what the forum creator said to use mineral oil DO NOT use it it is the same as the laxatone (ferrelax) or Vaseline and blocks absorption of nutrients

Farieanne the use of olive oil is for PREVENTION of hairball I would give no more than 2 times a week but you are right better to give extra virgin olive oil. Also right only needed to give during spring and fall shedding seasonDoes anyone know how much olive oil i should give my ferret and she is a little less than 6 months old.
Laxatone or vaseline is better at getting a hairball out.

Olive oil is most beneficial to ferrets when mixed 1/2 with FerreTone. You can give them as much as you want, it won't do anything to them, but about a couple tsp. a week is good. :) Does anyone know how much olive oil i should give my ferret and she is a little less than 6 months old.
You only need to give it to them if they have a hairball, a blockage, or it MIGHT help make a softer coat. About a tsp a week is enough. Usually only needed during shedding seasons in fall and spring. Make sure you give them extra virgin oliv oil.
this doesn't answer your question, but what do you give the ferret olive oil for?
i would say like 5cc. but i am not sure.

this is the best that I could find. It almost seems like you know what need, but just don't have the measurements. You can just alter the mixture and guess, that usually ends up pretty good. I generally don't measure much, just kind of add and move on.

Chicken with Parmesan, Garlic, and Herb Crust

    1 garlic clove, peeled

1/4 cup fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves

    2 slices whole-wheat bread

1/4 cup grated Parmesan (1 ounce)

    2 tablespoons olive oil

    1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

    Freshly ground black pepper

4 skinless, boneless chicken-breast halves, 2 pork tenderloins, halved (1 1/2 to 2 pounds total), or 1 1/2 pounds skinless salmon fillet (4 pieces)

    4 teaspoons Dijon mustard

Heat oven to 400掳 F. Lightly coat a medium baking dish with vegetable cooking spray. Mince the garlic in a food processor, then add the parsley and pulse until combined, about 15 seconds. Add the bread, Parmesan, oil, salt, and a few grinds of black pepper. Pulse until well combined. Arrange the meat or fish in the baking dish. Spread with the mustard, then pat the crumbs on top.

Bake until cooked through, 20 to 25 minutes for the chicken, 30 minutes for the pork, or 20 minutes for the salmon. Divide among 4 plates and season with salt and pepper to taste.

How much olive oil should you give dogs per day? I have 2 Italian Greyhounds....?

TABLESPOON???? A TEASPOON of any oil a day AT MOST!! You have lttle IGGYS, not racing Greys!!Too much oil will give them diarrhea big time!! What would be more beneficial for them is fish oil. Omegas and all that, very good for you and the dogs both. You can get fish oil capsules any place they sell vitamins. I would give them one capsule a day. If the capsule is too big for them to swallow, pierce it with a pin and squeeze onto their food. Take one yourself, it's a great source of essential fatty acids, omegas, etc. If a dog is bound up give them a bit of canned pumpkin with rice and cooked ground meat or chicken for each meal until they are regular... It is the best thing for dogs off their ';routine';. ALWAYS take your dog to the vet if they are ill or running a fever for more than 2 days. Better safe than sorry. How much olive oil should you give dogs per day? I have 2 Italian Greyhounds....?
My ';opening'; was directed towards the other answerers suggesting you give Iggys that much oil. I was horrified at the suggestion. In all probability it would have made them so sick you would need to take them to the vet. Report Abuse
How much olive oil should you give dogs per day? I have 2 Italian Greyhounds....?
Olive oil? For what? I would consult your vet.
Olive oil is good for the dogs skin but dont give to much. maybe a little.

but i agree you should contact your vet and ask.
You should probably give them about two tablespoons each per day. This will keep thier coat shiney and there skin won't get dry.
You can mix a tablespoon in with their food.
About 3 table spoons per dog.
I've never given any of my dogs olive oil. Why do you think you need to do this?
You're already feeding an outstanding food - my favorite, by the way. If their coats or skin are dry or they need a few more calories, you could give them a teaspoon of olive oil. They are small dogs, and any more than that may give them loose stools.
Do not give this everyday. It can cause diarrhea. I use flaxseed oil once a week. I give my dogs a big tablespoon, but, they are maostiffs, and a weimaraner. Large dogs.
If you are feeding them a balanced and nutritional diet, you shouldn't need to feed them any oil
I've never heard of giving them olive oil. I've heard of giving them canola oil. Probably a tablespoon for your dogs
about 1 teaspoon,,it's good for dry skin and gives a shiny coat.
I give my dogs a tablespoon of olive oil once a day and a vitamin e pill as well once a day. I mix this with their food in the morning. They both have great coats, and their digestive movements look healthier.
my vet said my male toy poodle didn't need any oil in his diet. ';just make his food mushy with water';.

the old wife's tales said that the oil (usually bacon grease) was used for flavor or seasoning dog's food, help keep a shiny coat and to avoid constipation. that's why i wanted to give my puppy some oil...he has such a hard time (sometimes) with his bowels. he actually yelps while having a movement.

At my store we sell 3 L tins of Sagra Extra Virgin Olive Oil, they are $49.50/each - they actually taste like olive oil, unlike grocery store bulk olive oil. Look at my website and if you would want me to send the large tins we can figure that out!

  • Question about olive oil, Why is some more expensive than others? ?

My teacher said something about it being more diluted....idk but i really need the answer! :[Question about olive oil, Why is some more expensive than others? ?
Most things that are grown like wheat, corn, are known as commodities along with cost of growing harvest and quality, demand and availability on commodity stock market determines the cost of olive oil. Other oils that are are more expensive like peanut oil, walnut oil, almond oil and avocado oil etc.Question about olive oil, Why is some more expensive than others? ?
It depends on the method used in processing as well as the care taken. Extra-virgin comes from the first pressing of the oils, and is done without heat, so as to avoid damaging flavor. This creates a high-quality oil, but because you can't get as much oil that way as you can in the heat-processed Pure and Light olive oils, EV costs more. Certain companies select their olives with more care, meaning they are using more expensive olives, and use more hand processing methods, which also adds to the cost of high-end oil.
She's right. (I hate you! lol)

The reason why olive oil varies in price from afforable to ';why they hell would I pay that much?'; is because the first extraction of the olive is the purest and best. After that you get additives and weakness with the oil. It doesn't quite have the flavor that Extra Virgin Olive Oil does. You get what you pay for! That is if you know what you're buying.
Extra virgin comes from the first pressings of the olives, it's the best, most expensive. Lower grades (virgin, regular, light) come from subsequent pressings.

I heard that extra virgin olive oil and vinager did somthing to your hair what does it do?

im not sure what but does anyone have any ideas on how to make thick hair smooth and shiny?I heard that extra virgin olive oil and vinager did somthing to your hair what does it do?
I don't know about vinegar, but olive oil makes your hair soft and smooth.I heard that extra virgin olive oil and vinager did somthing to your hair what does it do?
umm greasy and smelly! Like feet!!
Turns your hair into a nice salad :)
Makes it taste great when you spread it on a nice crusty piece of garlic bread...
I don't know if virgin olive oil it's good for your hair. It's used more for the skin, nails. For ex. if you soak your nails in warm olive oil not only that it will soften your cuticles, but also will helps brittle nails become more resistant.Another thing about extra virgin olive oil that i know that's good for tanning.Don't laugh its true.It costs me a bit to get tanned so olive oil works great, but carefull don't exaggerate or you might end up red as a fried lobster : As for the vinegar for hair its used to get your hair shinny. Not just any vinegar, apple vinegar.I used it and it works.Just before rinsing put on as much as you think you need, leave it for 5min then you can rinse and apply the conditioner or whatever you use.Anyway hope it helps
    intensive conditioner

    bed head-dumb blonde

or even pantene leave in conditioner works well

stay away from using food as beauty products
yes go to a salon and ask them for this product called BIOSILK

its AMAZING and makes your hair super soft and shiny and smooth, just trsut me on this you will like it and be hooked!
I'm not sure about the vinegar but olive oil will help moisturize, smooth, and shine your hair
hepls it grow and look shiny.
I don't know much about putting in your hair at the same time. But oilve oil is a great conditioner and vinger gets rid of any build up in your hair.
It turns your hair into a delicious salad.
The vinegar acts as a cleansing agent but I wouldn't put olive oil on my hair because it would be very hard to get out. To get best results for your hair have it trimmed every 3 months - invest in some good salon grade shampoo and conditioner and if it is dry you could use one of those hot oil treatments every 2-3 weeks.

Is there a difference between canned and bottled olive oil?

Not only air, but olive oil suffers when it is exposed to light, so cans are potentially better in this respect.

If you want to be poncy, you should transfer it to an olive oil decanter (you can buy them), which will keep it in the best state. Is there a difference between canned and bottled olive oil?

Ear drop Side effects. What are they? Can olive oil give the same side effects?

I just went to a doctor to see about hardened wax in my ears, the doc told me to put olive oil down my ear for about 10 mins for a week. Yet my mother is ill against this, and thinks ear drops would be better. Now i've been reading up about ear drops side effects, namely otex, apparently otex compleetly removes ALL of the ear wax, removing the protective layer that stops infection. Is this true? And can olive oil do the same?Ear drop Side effects. What are they? Can olive oil give the same side effects?
There are two types of earwax, dry or wet. These are genetically determined.

It is usually the wet type that requires additional help. If you use Olive Oil all you are doing is softening the ear-wax, making it easier to remove or fall out of its own accord.

Otex is a compound of Urea, Hydrogen Peroxide and glycerine and obviously has a fiercer ';deep cleansing'; action with the potential for the side-effects you have read about.

For more information on ear-wax and possible treatments check out- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ear_waxEar drop Side effects. What are they? Can olive oil give the same side effects?
I went to the practitioner when I had a blocked ear canal, and he had me lean my head, while he syringed in peroxide solution that loosened the ear wax and a knot of wax came out when he flushed with warm water. Olive oil can't hurt, but warm it first ( luke-warm )
Warm olive oil is about the best provided it is fresh and clean.

Put it into a small bottle and stand it in warm water for about five minutes swirling it about every so often. Use an eye dropper to put one or two drops into each each, plugging the orifice with cotton wool. Leave overnight. The wax will slowly disappear without harming your protective wax coating.
I know people who swear by olive oil instead of medicines. So, they are still alive and appear normal. That's all taht I can say about taht.
i had the same problem last week. with me ears been blocked. the hospital told me to use olive oil its perfectly fine. it didnt work for me as i dint keep up to date with doing it. but they told me to do it 3 times a day for 5 mins each lie on your side and let it soak into the wax. or the other alternative instead of fart arsing about with that just go to the hospital and get it washed out. i did and im fine.
olive oil just softens the wax so that it is easy to remove, otex contains hydrogen peroxide and will bubble in the ear to dislodge any hardened wax. some people dont like the sensation. u may be best to start with olive oil, you can buy cheap olive oil BP in your local chemist warm it before use. your doc obviously didnt think the problem too bad to just recommend olive oil if it was bad he would have suggested u having them syringed by the nurse.

What is better (read: healthier) to cook with, olive oil or butter?

I'm sure the real answer is C)margarine, but which is healthier, olive oil or butter? What is better (read: healthier) to cook with, olive oil or butter?
Olive oil is usually considered the best of the oils (actually a little better even than canola). Scientists aren't entirely sure why (there are a number of theories that no one agrees on). If you go to the link below, you will find a good short description of the health benefits of olive oil. I switched to it when I started learning how to cook authentically Italian food, and now I use it for many things. Margerine is up for debate...again. I personally stay away from it, because it is somewhat a synthetic chemical, whereas olive oil is squeezed right out of natural olives. What is better (read: healthier) to cook with, olive oil or butter?
olive oil. it won't clog your arteries.
olive oil is good but, you can't let it burn it give out toxins that aren't good for . Canola oil is more costly but it's very healthy
Olive Oil would be my guess
    Olive Oil
    Olive oil for sure
olive oil b/c it helps lower your bad cholesterol levels.

it is a healthy monounsaturater fat, which means it will not clog your arteries. (see link)

the difference is that butter if made of saturated fat, meaning it is solid at room temperature, and also in your arteries, so thats no good.

as for margerine, i dont trust it...it tastes funny and they put all sorts of crappy chemicals in there a lot of times. There is this one called Smart Balance that i guess is pretty good, and its sort of like margerine.

but overall olive oil is better and tastes better as well (in my opinion)

Make sure u always buy VIRGIN olive oil though. and of course, use sparingly.
olive oil. margarine's the worst actually
Margarine, isnt all that healthy either.Olive oil is the healthiest it doesnt clog arteries.Butter definately isnt the healthiest either.
Olive oil, butter and then some more butter.....who wants to be healthy? It tastes rubbish with Margarine - don't do it to yourself!!!!!!
    Olive oil!

    HANDS DOWN.

    And it actually tastes better.

    Good Luck!
umm actually canola oil is the best for cooking on a pan.... especially the organic one, but from your choices... olive oil is a lot healthier and it carries more vitamins
    Hello,i am Halil from Turkey...

Yeah,of course olive oil.Because butter becomes harmful for our body while we were cooking. Also we put some olive oil to salad to prevent the food value.

Olive oil is useful for human health, especially our hearth and embolism. In addition for our hair.Olive oil is great for it.

In the Mediterranean countries, people who prefer olive oil to butter who are in their sixties do not get forgetfulness.

Well,i have read some of these in the newspapers and some of these at school.

  • Does olive oil make your hair grow faster?

im going to try an olive oil treatment on my hair to make it grow faster.

    i have a few questions!:

1.) does it work well on all types of hair?

2.)do you heat it up in the microwave? if so how long?

3.)do you use it on wet or dry hair?

4.) how do you heat the towl to rap around your head?

5.)do you wash your hair normally after you take the towl off?

Does olive oil make your hair grow faster?
On african american hair it works real well. I should be in oil form already so need to heat it up unless you want to burn yourself. You can use it on wet or dry hair. If you use it on dry hair use sparingly or it will weigh your hair down. You sit under a drier if you hair is wet so it can be a deep oil treatment. Only wash if you want to.Does olive oil make your hair grow faster?
I dont know about faster, but it does help in better growth,

It works best on dry hair, just warm it a bit. best use it on dry hair, 30 mins to an hour before u take a bath, really massage it into your scalp, wrapping a towel just makes the towel dirty, and wash ur hair twice, as its 2-3 times to take the oil off completely ... luck
No, olive oil doesn't make your hair grow faster. You'll have to wash the olive oil out with multiple shampooings, or else live with greasy hair. The only thing that affects how much your hair grows is your diet.
olive oil dosen't make your hair grow faster , it just moisture it

if you want to grow your hair faster then apply coconut oil for 3 hours twice a week , you will see a great results
dont use oil in your hair. it makes it reallyyyy gross.

Can I sub Olive oil for Vegetable oil?

I am tryin to make a cake for my brother's birthday. On the instructions it tells a way I can make it cholesterol free and I decided to use that one because my dad is trying to lower his cholesterol, and unless its cholesterol free I'm afraid he wont have any of it.

So the only kind of oil there is in the house is Olive oil but it says to use vegetable oil. I was wondering if there's any difference? Can I still use the Olive oil? Is it cholesterol free like the vegetable oil?

Thanks. Can I sub Olive oil for Vegetable oil?
No difference once it is heated.

If you were to leave it cold, olive oil is better. Can I sub Olive oil for Vegetable oil?
dont use olive oil..there is a difference,...trust me...
check the information on the lables of both oils...to my knowledge, olive oil is a healthier option..
My parents have high cholesterol and they were told to use olive oil, it lowers LDL levels..
well. i dont think olive oil would be really good to use because it kinda has a stronger flavor. olive oil is the healthiest but vegatable oil is the second healthiest.

It would be excellent health wise! But i dont know about taste wise.... but i imagine that it would still be ok! So yes olive oil is the healthiest
yes, actually olive oil is better for you. It doesn't make a bit of difference when it comes to cooking either.
Olive oil will make your cake taste different, if you use extra virgin oil, the difference will be noticeable and you might not care for the taste. If you are using one of the lighter olive oils, the difference in taste might not be too objectionable. If you have time and means, I would suggest a trip to the market for a small bottle of canola oil which is essentially tasteless and good for baking.
Olive oil is terrible for baking and most cooking, because it has a very low smoke point, meaning it burns at low temperatures. The oil will turn black, and taste awful. It's really best used for salads and dressings, but not for cooking. Stick to vegetable or canola.
Dont use olive oil. It will make the cake a different texture and you and other people will know something in not right in that cake. You can substitute butter, but I wouldnt do that if you are trying to make it cholesterol free.

Your better off going to the store and getting some Vegetable oil!
it wouldn't taste right, you should try canola oil instead
YES!!!! Olive Oil is the healthiest oil and cooking oil out there!!!! Please use it!!!

sounds like you got it handled. your season it with the lemon pepper seasoning(some of the lemon peper seasonings contain salt check ingredients of yours to be sure) heat pan add oil then chicken cook on one side then flip to the other, be sure to cook to 160 internal temp and you are done.Quick help.. lemon pepper chicken.. on the stove top skillet w/ just a bit of olive oil %26amp; what else?
Just add some broccoli or asparagus. Toss with some angel hair pasta. Maybe capers if you have some.
Make a salad of some fresh veggies or some veggies stir-fried for just a second in some olive oil. To drink, have some of your lemon (if there's any left) in your drink. Diet Coke with Splenda is what I would have.

    Buen provecho!
Yes, some safron rice or turmeric rice (found on the rice isle in little packets) is good with that. Mixed Normandy blend frozen veggies would be good, or a salad with ranch, my fave!

When having unexpected company, a big salad is always a hit!
I squeeze lemon juice over both sides of chicken then season with lemon pepper. During last bit of frying I squeeze a little more lemon juice over the chicken. Thats it very simple. Enjoy
    warm up some chopped veggies

    and add a rice.

Is it cause i massage it?I massage extra virgin olive oil on my face. I've seen good results but its making my skin dry. Is this normal?
Maybe you should do it every other night.

And on the nights you don't rub it on your skin, make your own face mask to hydrate your skin.

The best homemade facial mask that I have used is a raw egg yolk. just apply the raw yolk to your face and neck for 30 minutes and rinse with cool water. Egg yolks are high in vitamin A. The mask is very effective in healing blemishes, and it also helps heal and soothe dry skin!

So even if your not applying the EVOO, your still clearing your skin with the egg yolks :)

    Hope I helped!

Will Olive Oil work as a good lubricant?

what i mean is if Olive Oil went ';inside me';, will it irritate me? i'm a GUY not a GIRLWill Olive Oil work as a good lubricant?
    sure it safe

but why you are alone????Will Olive Oil work as a good lubricant?
DO NOT WORRY. COMPLETELY SAFE AND NATURAL. JUST MAKE SURE IT WAS STORED PROPERLY AND IS NOT RANCID.
It probably won't irritate you, but you can get a lovely infection as it will help trap bacteria. Get some KY or astroglide...much safer.
IVE USED IT AND ITS GREAT BUT WATCH YOUR SHEETS IT IS OIL AND WILL STAIN
It's safe, but go down to a store and buy some Wet. MUCH better.
i'm sure it's ok. but why not just go get some real lub!?
For yourself it'll work, although I suspect you'd need to keep reapplying it as it'll likely break down much quicker than the proper lubs.

As a sidenote, not sure it'd be such a good idea for sex however as some oils damage latex. Could also damage certain toys, but probably not extensively.

just use olive oil. pink lotion sucks it makes hair super greasy and nasty looking.Should i mix my olive oil conditioner with my pink lotion to make my hair as soft as can be?
Well coming from an African American girl, I say yes. If you don't want your hair to be too greasy let it sit in ,then rinse out. I do it and my hair is fairly long. Oh yeah, my hair is naturally soft and fine.
I wouldn't because after it dries your hair will be thick, the brush will be hard to get through your hair your pink lossion will be really soggy and wattery
    Ahahahah. lmao

Are you using olive oil as a moisturizer? Because zits take two weeks to form. So you might be causing yourself a giant breakout two weeks from your starting point. If you want your skin to be less dry, use face lotion. It won't clog your pores and I find that the clinique stuff works really well. Stop using EVOO!I massage extra virgin olive oil on my face. I've seen good results but its making my skin dry. Is this normal?
You can use cucumber juice/tomato juice to tone your skin after the olive oil treatment.

Leave it on for 15 mins, and use cool water to rinse off.

Olive oil soften skin and provide vitamins for the skin.

Its does not really moisturize skin that well.

grape/peach fresh slices gently rub on face to moisture.

Leave it on for 15 mins, rinse off with cool water.
you massage oil onto your face for acne, and its making your skin dry? umm no. the oil would actually make your face greasy, so if your skin is extremely dry, then your skin should not be getting dry. also, the oil clogs your pores! olice oil + your face = gross blackheads nd pimples
It's not because you are messaging it, it's actually good for you skin--messaging EVOO on your face for about 20 minutes clears the whitehead and black heads on your face. after you message your face with EVOO, wash your face with your usual face wash, and then apply moisturizer.

Will olive oil and pushing your cuticles back make your nails grow longer?

Ive been biting my nails since I was 4 and today I decided that I'm going to stop biting them! Will olive oil and pushing your cuticles back really make your nails longer??? and if so tell me howWill olive oil and pushing your cuticles back make your nails grow longer?
I dont recommend Olive Oil. It'll smell funny and there's no need for that. I went to the pharmacy, bought a small bottle of vitamin E oil and I massage that around my cuticles whenever I feel like it. The key isn't the oil (that's merely for moisture), it's the MASSAGING of the nail bed that helps stimulate growth. Will olive oil and pushing your cuticles back make your nails grow longer?
i strongly recommend hair, skin, and nail pills. you can get them at an vitamin store, and they are so good for you. reduces breakouts, makes your hair and nails grow faster, and just generally makes you feel healthier. they smell bad, but are tasteless.
Never heard about the olive oil thing or pushing cuticles back to make nails grow. I've had a nail bitting problem since i was like 7 years old (now 20). It's all about will power. My nails are strong and long right now but when I'm stressed or have high anxiety I mow my nails down so fast its not even right. lol. I also been taking pills to make my nails and hair grow by Avon. I know what it's like but don't get discouraged if you relapse.

    *Fight the urge!
Non-sense ! But if you eat well and drink plenty of water, that might help. Everyone's nails grow at a different rate.
im not sure if olive oil will, but i know if you buy plain non flavored jello and make it that should hep yuor nails grow
I don't know about making your nails grow longer, but olive oil really helps moisturize and it makes your nails glow (ok, shine). Pushing back your cutlicles makes your nails look longer, but I don't know if it actually helps to make them grow. Dark nail polish makes your nails appear longer, too (though pearly, pastely colors make your nails look shorter). Hope this helps!
yes it will help also file your nails alittle bit each day it makes them grow long and strong, and put some clear nail polish on, take it off everyother day and reapply it.
well, i don't know about olive oil. but pushing your cuticles back does help. i stopped a few years ago and i've been pushing my cuticles back and my nails are really long now.

If they squeeze babies to get baby oil then that would be murder. However, if killing babies is wrong, would eating baby carrots or baby corn be considered murder, also?

To answer your question, mineral oil and baby oil are the same thing (not actual made out of babies).

';Mineral oil or liquid petrolatum is a by-product in the distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline. It is a transparent, colorless oil composed mainly of alkanes (typically 15 to 40 carbons) [1] and cyclic paraffins, related to white petrolatum. Mineral oil is a substance of relatively low value, and it is produced in very large quantities. Mineral oil is available in light and heavy grades, and can often be found in drug stores.

Mineral oil with added fragrance is marketed as baby oil in the US, UK and Canada';.

    Got it off wikipedia
i just had a baby and my father-in-law asks this exact same joke every time we see him. it's so irritating. i hate your sense of humor.

lol and ewww what a thought

What's the reason/need for refrigerating olive oil, and how does one liquify it after it has solidified?

    Ever since hearing that olive oil should be refrigerated, I have been driven batty by the need to liquify the whole bottle each time I need a teaspoonful full of the solidified mass! Does anyone have a more practical way of handling this%26gt;

Additionally, in spite of hearing over and over again that olive oil needs to be refrigerated once opened, I wonder about the truth of that advice. I buy several different brands of high quality extra virgin olive oil and not one of them has any statement about the need to refrigerate. What's the reason/need for refrigerating olive oil, and how does one liquify it after it has solidified?
I have NEVER refrigerated olive oil, and I'm not going to start doing it now! As long as it's stored in a dark, cool place, it's fine (pantry, cupboard)What's the reason/need for refrigerating olive oil, and how does one liquify it after it has solidified?
Because it goes rancid if you don't use huge quantities of it.

I put my cold bottle into a bowl of warm water (not hot).

I don't use a lot of olive oil, so mine tends to go rancid if I don't refrigerate it. If you go through an 8oz bottle within 3 months, then you don't have to chill it.
olive oil does not need to be refrigerated!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unless it takes you a couple months to through a bottle. the reason for refrigerating oils is to lengthen their shelf life. but most fats including oils have a shelf life, even after opening, of at least a month or two. sesame oil is one exception.

If olive oil comes from olives, where does baby oil come from?

  • Biblically speaking, In biblical times, was anyone authorized to turn Olive Oil into a Martini?

The wizard of popeye was certified in that area.

next time try the mixing-martinis-at-a-school-pta-meeting section this is religion here

gotta go wax my toe hairBiblically speaking, In biblical times, was anyone authorized to turn Olive Oil into a Martini?
Jesus turned water to wine at a wedding for the bride and groom not to be embarrassed. An old friend of mine who call himself atheist is far too bitter about that as there is hunger in the world nowadays and the Gospel spends far too much time making bread out of stones in the dessert or multiplying fish and bread to feed the crowd. I suppose he is not that atheist as he worries too much to be bitter about all those things.

BwBiblically speaking, In biblical times, was anyone authorized to turn Olive Oil into a Martini?
Sure, it was Popeye.. you know, the sailor man.

Hell, he's as real as the biblical god.
    ';Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging, and whoever is deceived thereby is not wise.';

    Don't think so.
I think only Jesus was allowed.
    Martini's remind me of dryness.

    And Nope.
    Jesus was, I'm assuming.
