Does olive oil help work knots out of hair?

i have about 3 big knots in my hair, and it hurts to brush it out. i looked on google for a few days, and kept noticing people mention olive oil. olive oil would make the hair slippery and help get the knots out easier.





if you have done this before on your self or someone else, does the olive oil help at all? D;
