What is better (read: healthier) to cook with, olive oil or butter?

I'm sure the real answer is C)margarine, but which is healthier, olive oil or butter?What is better (read: healthier) to cook with, olive oil or butter?
Olive oil is usually considered the best of the oils (actually a little better even than canola). Scientists aren't entirely sure why (there are a number of theories that no one agrees on). If you go to the link below, you will find a good short description of the health benefits of olive oil. I switched to it when I started learning how to cook authentically Italian food, and now I use it for many things. Margerine is up for debate...again. I personally stay away from it, because it is somewhat a synthetic chemical, whereas olive oil is squeezed right out of natural olives.What is better (read: healthier) to cook with, olive oil or butter?
olive oil. it won't clog your arteries.
olive oil is good but, you can't let it burn it give out toxins that aren't good for . Canola oil is more costly but it's very healthy

olive oil b/c it helps lower your bad cholesterol levels.


it is a healthy monounsaturater fat, which means it will not clog your arteries. (see link)


the difference is that butter if made of saturated fat, meaning it is solid at room temperature, and also in your arteries, so thats no good.


as for margerine, i dont trust it...it tastes funny and they put all sorts of crappy chemicals in there a lot of times. There is this one called Smart Balance that i guess is pretty good, and its sort of like margerine.


but overall olive oil is better and tastes better as well (in my opinion)





Make sure u always buy VIRGIN olive oil though. and of course, use sparingly.

Margarine,isnt all that healthy either.Olive oil is the healthiest it doesnt clog arteries.Butter definately isnt the healthiest either.
Olive oil, butter and then some more butter.....who wants to be healthy? It tastes rubbish with Margarine - don't do it to yourself!!!!!!

umm actually canola oil is the best for cooking on a pan.... especially the organic one, but from your choices... olive oil is a lot healthier and it carries more vitamins

Yeah,of course olive oil.Because butter becomes harmful for our body while we were cooking.Also we put some olive oil to salad to prevent the food value.


Olive oil is useful for human health,especially our hearth and embolism.In addition for our hair.Olive oil is great for it.


In the Mediterranean countries,people who prefer olive oil to butter who are in their sixties do not get forgetfulness.


Well,i have read some of these in the newspapers and some of these at school.
