Can olive oil be used as a substitute for vegetable oil?

if it matters it is for browniesCan olive oil be used as a substitute for vegetable oil?
The olive is a vegetable, therefore olive oil is a vegetable oil. However, for desserts one would usually prefer an oil that did not have the taste of olive. Can olive oil be used as a substitute for vegetable oil?

I am amused that you found my answer idiotic. If we describe the contents of our world as animal, vegetable and mineral, then olives are in the vegetable category. They are a fruit, in that they contain a seed. They do not yield animal or mineral oils, therefore, olive oil is a vegetable oil. Report Abuse

I think the taste will be slightly different . But hey ,what the heck ,wouldn't hurt to give it a try ,would it ? Or would it ?

It might be the healthier eating alternative ,less fat and cholesterol.

You can have your brownies and eat it -too.
If you are talking about Extra Virgin Olive Oil that will affect the flavor. Vegetable oil is relatively neutral in flavor. If you have Light Olive Oil you can use that for baking.
no!! use butter or margarine instead. olive oil will taste bad in the brownies and that would be very expensive.
generally olive oil is much more healthy but, not really suitable for brownies.
No, especially if you have the more expensive stuff.
FYI....Olives are fruits, not vegetables.
