Is olive oil bad for hamsters?

To quiet the wheel while i'm trying to sleep, i dab some olive oil on it. Is that okay for my hamsters? Is olive oil bad for hamsters?
Perfectly harmless and great idea. They will lick it off, as they will with any kind of oil you put on there. For just this reason, only use oils edible for humans! We received some wasabi oil (spicy) for Christmas, I wonder if the spiciness would deter them from licking it off?

If you have the standard wire bar exercise wheel there is a small modification you should also do to it to make it better for your hamsters. Take some thin cardboard (manilla folders found in any office are great) and cut it into a strip or two slightly thinner than the width of the wheel and weave it through the bars around the whole wheel to create a ';solid floor';. This will prevent their legs from slipping through and hitting their shins on the bars. Many hamsters will have thinning fur and callouses on their shins from these kinds of wheels. It's not very pretty but it will make the hamsters happier. Some of mine chewed on them, some never did. The ';floors'; that didn't get chewed had to be replaced eventually as they can get dirty.

just a dab will not be harmful. good idea!
i wouldn't say its bad for them but, i wouldn't suggest giving it to them.
That should be fine--I'd use vegetable oil though--its cheaper.
That's perfectly fine. Hamsters won't lick the oil. It was brilliant you used olive oil instead of those harmful industrial oil.
