Extra-virgin olive oil comes from the first pressing of the olives, contains no more than 0.8% acidity, and is judged to have a superior taste. There can be no refined oil in extra-virgin olive oil.

Virgin olive oil with an acidity less than 2%, and judged to have a good taste. There can be no refined oil in virgin olive oil.

Olive oil is a blend of virgin oil and refined virgin oil, containing at most 1% acidity. It commonly lacks a strong flavor.

the research I've done on this question show that there is no difference in nutritional difference...Does light olive oil have the same nutritional benefits as regular extra virgin olive oil?
Ligher is healthier and more clear.
Extra LIGHT olive oil has a higher smoking point and thus is better if you are doing deep frying. Learned this from Italian cooking shows, with Nick Stellino.

Extra VIRGIN has a lot of delicate compounds that provide that special taste when it's raw, like in a salad dressing. Many of these break down when you heat the oil, which might be risky for health, but certainly makes it so you can't taste those premium flavor notes any more...So now you know why Lidia's always adding more raw EV olive oil to the dish she just cooked in EV olive oil.
the extra virgin is the best most flavorful especially if the olives are pressed like they did in the lucy show bare foot in a kiddie pool just kidding. Extra virgin has a dark green color. other grades are more clear or yellow
Light olive oil usually is lighter tasting for dishes where you do not want a strong taste of olives. It is not lower in caloric value and does not have a higher nutrional value.
Light is no better at all, just the same. Extra virgin is yummier.
It should have the same benefits but just not as healthy.
Labels such as virgin, extra virgin and pure are used to categorize olive oils according to their acidity. Virgin olive oil is the first pressing of the olives with an acidity level no higher than three percent. To receive the virgin label, however, the oil must not be further processed by heat or chemicals. Extra virgin olive oil is the first pressing of the olives with an acidity level no higher than one percent, and no heat or chemical processing. Both virgin and extra virgin olive oils are considered 100% unadulterated olive oil. Pure olive oil is extracted with heat and chemicals from the pulps, or solids, left behind after the first pressing. Virgin olive oils are said to have better flavor then pure olive oil, which is also less expensive.
extra virgin olive oil is good for you. Many companies often come up with ';lighter'; options to test these products and often charge more $$-save your pennies, you do not need to switch!

And Rita, lighter is not always healthier...always look at the labels and compare-most times you will find that ';healthier'; items usually have more calories /sugar in that product and they tend to be pricier....
Yes ligther is healthier
